power and mpg for tow

I'll start by saying, i'm not looking to race... also not looking to drop gobs of cash. I pull ~9000lbs when I head out to go wheeling and i'm looking to get better mpg's as well a bit more power out of my 01 SO/5spd with 141,000 on the clock. It sitting pretty stock right now, with straight exhaust being the only modification. The lift pump and clutch were both recently replaced by the previous owner. It has a K&N drop in filter (which I'm starting to wonder about after some of the things i've been reading) and the box has been drilled.

I've been doing my share of reading and it looks like a good combo for me would be the Edge EZ, some RV275 injectors, and a 4 inch exhaust (after gauges of course). I see some people leaning more towards the mach 1.6's but I wonder if the extra cost would be worth it in my case. I want to keep the truck reliable and I need to get another 60-100k out of it. I'm not a heavy footed driver, but i've been known to get a wild bug here and there...

how does this sound? all things considered (mpg, power, $$), am I headed in the right direction?

is the aux lift pump a requirement and will the 4 inch exhaust be enough to keep the EGT's down?

You will be fine with a 4" exhaust... some would argue a 5" is too big, but that's another topic. The combo you are considering is very popular among the towing crowd. I myself went with the Mach 1.6 sticks but I think with the weight you are pulling you'd be safer with either or a Mach 1 or RV275 as far as heat goes... unless a turbo upgrade is also a possibility?
