Painting the Gauge Bezel

This is to everyone who has painted their dash. What did you do to prep it and what was it like. Has anyone painted over the wook grain ones? My truck has the wood and I hate it but you can't order without on a fully jambed truck! What a bummer! Anyways I want to paint the Bezel and the wood trim on the doors anyone give me the best procedure?

I would guess that if you got a really good primer to adhere to the plastic, you could paint it with pretty much anything.. A good body shop should have the prep stuff for cleaner and primer from doing bumpers etc.

J-eh

There are plastic paints made specifically to "soften" and adhere to the plastic.

You can get the factory stuff from you friendly Dodge dealer, or go to Schucks, etc. who also carry it. Parts stores usually carry more colors, but their stock to match factory color gray, beige, etc. is not very close.

Go sparingly with it, cause it WILL run.

plastic prep is alcohol and let evaporate. No primer used with this paint since it has to bond directly with the plastic. Don't touch it with much pressure while wet, the plastic is actually soft.

This will provide you with a VERY durable and professional "factory" appearance.

As I am sure know already, preparation is the most important part of the job. In your case make sure that ALL old grease etc is removed before painting to avoid cat's eyes and other problems. Not sure what degreasers you have there but for a job like this I have found the acetone works great. You can also use laquer thinners but DO NOT use it on plastic.

Jamie, you have mail.

Here's the link to my mermber photos. For some reason, my comp won't load a pic right now. But that is how mine turned out. Got the paint from Autozone in a spray can. Matches my paint perfectly. Even the little glitter flecks in it.
