P-PUMP timing cover?

when P-pumping a 24V can you use the 24V timing gear case or does it have to be a 12V case?

I know you have to use the 12V gear.

You'd need to machine the casing at the very least to get the pump to even fit in the hole and have the studs line up. Either way, it has to come off to do it, so putting a 12v case back in its place would be the easier way to do it.

you'll need a 12v cover. The p7100 won't fit into the hole the VP44 came out of. Are you doing a 98.5-2000 or 01/02 engine?

That's easier than the 01/02 engines. You'll just have to put the cam sensor in the hole that the timing pin came out of & make an adapter to hold it in at the right depth.

Schied has that cam sensor adapter. Thats what I went with, only 2 DTC's and no CEL.

So what is different about the 01/02 engines that makes harder ?

They don't have a crank position sensor, so there's a tone wheel on the back of the cam gear that does it all. To align it up, you have to move the hole in the cover over, then build a bracket that covers the extra big hole & holds the sensor in place. No big deal, just more work

I sent a 12v frt.cover to Piers to have the sensor realigned, it worked great.
Only thing is I had eng.light on all the time.

I'd imagine for low APPS voltage and no com between ECM and IP. Those are my two codes.

Could leave the APPS and VP plugged in. Reduce the bulk and just have the electronics. Or maybe a custom ECM could be done to reprogram what the computer needs to see and have feedback from.

thats alot of clutter..Like ya said maybe just the electronics and dip em in wax to preserve them.. wonder if a few resistors would help...wonder if you would still get codes with the electronics plugged in since the apps and VP arent doing there job... guess I will find out when im done with my project in about a month..
