Onboard Air Using a York
Onboard Air Using a York
Anyone got the York from Brad Kilby of onboard air? I am going to use it I think for my air ride! I just want some experience with it before I buy it. He claims it can produce 6 CFM at 2000 RPM and 200PSI is this correct? I know now my 2 Viair 550c compressors don't make 2 CFM at 150 PSI so this is a huge jump! If anyone can let me know then that would be great. I am also interested in fit and finish and installation difficulty?
Re:Onboard Air Using a York
works really well on our jeeps. Don't know anyone that uses it on a truck (yet). I would like to get 1 as well. I would like to mount a tank down by the frame rails. It is nice having air to fill up flat tires, especially on the trailer

Jamie,

I would think it might be a problem fitting it under the hood with the CTD. It is basically a York air conditioner compressor that has been modified. It has a pulley on it and would have to be bolted up where the belt can go around it.

If it will fit, I have heard that they work really well! The reason they use the York compressor is because it has a built-in oil reservior. Other A/C compressors can be used but have to have an oiler of some sort plumbed into the system.

This is a very popular mod with the Jeep crowd.
Re:Onboard Air Using a York
There is a bracket that replaces the alt. Bracket, You have to have a nippendenso Alt to use it. Supposedly it fits under the hood. I was contemplating getting the york 12 vlt system and putting it where the pass. battery was.

I bought the 1700 amp battery from MR. Bobs......

I have the quick air 2 pump right now but it is a little slow to air up a big tire.

Re:Onboard Air Using a York
The kit that Brad makes for the ISB will, I believe, orient the York horizontally thus you don't reap the full benefit of having the separate lubrication reservoir in the york. Ideally you want to run the York in a vertical position so very, very, very little oil gets into the air system. Brad does this on all his jeep kits. I am working on a York install which goes beside the alternator so the York is vertical. One must relocate the coolant reservoir, or tilt it, to accomodate this install. It will fit as I have done the mock up. FYI, it looks like a York will stand vertically on top of the alternator and clear the hood on a 2003 HPCR - tried this quickly last Friday. Marc

OK MDKram Im not planning this mod till this winter just gathering info right now. If you make a kit that fits nicely I will take one off your hands in seconds! I want this setup and have heard only praise from others about how good the Yorks work for air ride! Please PM or email me when you have a working setup! I would want to get compressor, clutch, bracket and any belts everything to make it a working setup!
Re:Onboard Air Using a York
Jamie I have the kit from Brad on my 02 cummins. It works great. My tank is mounted under the passenger side and it holds roughly 5 g's. I have a pressure switch set to 110psi but I know it goes much higher than that. The setup is very easy to install and looks very nice. The kit is 150 and the compressor cost 75 at the junk yard and the alternator cost 50 from the junk yard. It is a clean swap and have no complaints. I have a quick disconnect in the front and between the tailgate and bumper. It is a very good system. I just tried to attach the picture but it wont let me do it. It says it is too big.

If you could resize that pic in something and post it that would be great. As far as install goes though its straight forward? What about the oiling? I want to run mine while driving all the time and stuff but I don't understand how it oils? Can you explain it to me in a bit of detail. Brad said something about pulling some plug on the side then you can run it all the time but you have to put a filter on it and it can spew oil under the hood.
Re:Onboard Air Using a York
I am not sure how brad ran his but I will tell you how I ran mine. I built tank and mounted it under passenger side to frame. About 5 gals. From the compressor I ran hose to the tank and put a check vavle inline. I have a pressure switch on the tank to cut out at desired pressure. The compressor is mounted laying down. On both sides of the compressor there are fill plugs. The side I have up is where I add the oil. You just check it every once in a while. In the tank I have a petcock to drain the oil maybe once a year. Depends on how much I use it. If you dont want a tank, you can put an oil water seperator in line to whatever you want to fill up. This works ok but with tank you can just drain. Make sure the drain is on the bottom and that you protect it. Hope that helps.

Fits 1998 1/2 -Up Cummins (24 valve) . Places the compressor above alternator and runs off our combo pulley. Must have Nippondenso Alternator.
Use ET210R Tube-O compressor and 25-501939-D V-groove clutch.
Kit comes with serpentine belt and V-belt
