New Tires

I'm looking to get some new tires, the ones on it now are Kelly Safari AWR and are 235 85R16. I want some that will fill up the wheel wells more and look/perform meaner. I still want them to be able to drive on the road because it's my everyday driver. So help me with the sizes because I don't know much about tires.

Two best choices, in my opinion are either 285/75r/16's or 305/70r/16's. I would have the 305's but I like Michelin better than BF Goodrich...who is only one I know of that makes the 305's. BFG's are a meaner look and a little bigger, but for my money you can't beat Michelin for quiet ride, great handling, good traction and long life.
Both are 'D' rated tires and will work as long as you are not towing heavy.
Anything bigger than 305's will rub when turning.
BFG - 305's are 33" tall
Michelins - 285's are 32.8" tall

You can get a Goodyear ATS in 305. I got almost 50,000 miles out of my last set. Stepped up to 315's now.

Pics in my gallery if your interested.

I have Cooper Discovery A/T 305/70R16's. They are load range E. I drive onroad and have been happy with them but they came with the truck so I do not know how many miles are on them. I did find out that they don't like mud very much this past weekend when I buried the truck up to the doors. Nothing a "little" shoveling couldnt take care of.

I used to own a GMC 1500 4x4 with 35x12.5 R15's with Cooper Discovery S/T. Those tires rocked for offroad, but that is exactly what they were...offroad tires. When stopping on pavement at 5mph to 0 it would send a good vibration through the truck. I had friends comment on how well they worked in the mud when I would get stuck and they would think we were out of luck and I would tell them I haven't put it in 4 wheel drive yet.

305/70R16 fill the wheel wells perfectly.

I think a 285 gives the truck the just right look. They are a touch narrower than the 305's but the same, within .5", height. I have the Cooper Discover ST. In a previous post someone mentioned these, but I believe he was referring to the STT, which is a mud tire. The ST is an aggressive tire, buts it's also quiet. The ST is also designed to wear well in high torque(ie diesel) applications. Here's a link for the ST

I've used, sold and installed Cooper tires for about 8 years now and dollar for dollar, they are every bit as good as the major name brands.

I went with 295/75-R16D BFG KO's. I was going to get 305/70-R16D's but wanted the extra height of the 75 series. I have them on stock alloys with a 2" front lift and have no clearance problems. Check out my photos for how they look.

I've seen 235/85R/16's but never a 255/85R/16. Who makes those?
