New guy with timing box question

Hi, this is my first post so I am mostly saying hello, but I do have a question:

I have a 99 3/4 ton 5 spd that is stock except for an FMS box and 5" straight exhaust.

What is a good (and inexpensive) timing box that I can stack with the FMS? I am not looking for the most power ever, just a decent timing box that will help me out a little more. Thanks a bunch, -Evan

box

If you want a timing box without a lot of power , then I would say your best bet is a Edge EZ. Its only 65-70 HP. Alot of people stack this with a redline for the timing.. Thats what I was going to do but could not find one for a 02.. Check on EBAY they go for 150-250 bucks

A power Puck is a very good stack with a FMS.

I'd try the new Quadzilla XZT+-- that's probably the best boox for "stacking" out there, with all the customizability and such...

Not too expensive, either.

I am stacking my PowerPuck with my TST comp and it does well, it def makes a difference. I am thinking about trying something to give me more lowend "hit" tho. I heard the Van Aaken has more low end, but I'm really wanting to give the Quad XZT+ a try, it sounds real promising with the updatable programs.

If you order one make sure you get the XZT+ because the earlier XZT (notice the missing +) is a fueling box...

Well the XZT+ is both a timing and a fuel box. It comes with a three way switch. Posistion 1) is off. Posistion 2) economy mode or timing only AND posistion 3) is a kick in the pants, being timing and fuel.

Yeah it pulls from the bottem real hard. They also have several different tunes so you can find a perfect match for your truck.

BTW, the XZT+ can only be stacked with a fuel only box that taps the VP-44 wire. There are several guys here on DTR that are having excellent results stacking the XZT+ with Banks Ottomind (which of course is a fuel only box).

It's not "fuel" in the sense of this thread.

The distinction is whether it taps the pump solenoid wire.

Fueling= wire tap
Timing= no wire tap

ah, yeah...it's still fueling. It's not wire tapping for fuel. On switch 3 the XZT+ adjustes timing and adds fuel for the power gains. It's kinda like how HRVP-44s add more fuel. But to get big fuel, you gotta bump up the voltage to the VP via tapping the wire.................

I believe...................

thanks for the info. does the XZT+ tap the wire? I'm not following..... I understand the difference, but I'm not sure what the XZT+ does. If i stack it with the FMS, will i ony be able to use position #1 and #2? thanks everyone, -Evan

No, the XZT+ does not tap the wire.

So if the XZT+ does not tap the wire, and Smarty does not tap the wire then you could NOT stack them correct? I know XZT+ is timing + Fuel and so is Smarty. I was wondering if you could choose a 'no timing' level on Smarty and stack that with the timing + Fuel mode on the XZT+?
