Mystery Switch for Dummies

I need help wiring my lock up switch. I have the B11 blk/org wire tapped and grounded with a switch. The on/off switch has a green light telling you when it's on and off. What else do I need to get the switch to work? I need somebody to explain it to me in very simple terms. BTW, I tapped the blk/org wire in front of the wiring harness in front of the driver side. I believe this is the correct wire. It's like 18/20 ga wire and the only org/black wire coming off of the computer on the passenger side.

And it doesnt work like that?? sounds like you did it right!

i wouldnt know exactly about your switch... i think you need a special switch, if you want the light to work correctly!

also i have a question, what does a tranny need to hold up to a luck up? is it the VB or TC?

We have had problems with the lighted switches.... Try using a non-lighted swithed and all should be good!

Are you using these instructions? http://www.tstproducts.com/Torque%20...p%20Switch.pdf

The light can't be powered from the same terminals as the lock up, the ground will flow though the bulb filament when the lockup is off. The switch needs to have two separate circuits (DP) one for the light, one for lockup.

the stock valve body will allow second gear lockup, but the stock converter doesen't like locked upshifts. to make a good lockup setup you really need to upgrade the valve body and the converter. PM me if you want suggestions on tranny vendors.

I rewired my switch. I tapped the wire next to the computer to be 100% sure. I had another on/off switch (non-lighted) and hooked it up. When I'm driving and hit the switch, the only thing that happens is the the "Wait to Start" light comes up. Any more ideas? Thanks.

If you pull the plug out of the PCM it should be the Middle plug and the black/orange wire should go to pin B11. Do you have a jumper wire running acrost the tansmission relay??

You have the wrong Orange with black wire... you have the wait to start wire as to why that lights up. There is a few orange with blacks on the PCM,,, look at the post a couple above and see where the right orange with black is located

I don't have a jumper wire on the tranny rely. Where could i get one of those? The B11 is the wire farthest left and on the bottom row right? I guess I will have to re-recheck it. Thanks for all the replies.

Pull the trans relay and take a short piece of wire and put it in the 2 places shown in that diagram. No need for a special wire,, but just make sure it dont touch anything else as the wire will be live everytime you turn on the key. You can use 2 spade male ends on the wire and insert it and remember DO NOT reinstall the relay.

As for the wire,, the B11 is the bottom left one

I was just looking into doing this on my truck. Will the TC still lock up "normally" without the realy installed or will the switch need to be used everytime? The only time i would like to use the lock-up feature outside of normal driving is for going down hills with the trailer on. Right now it just unlocks and you basically coast down the hill, a little bit of engine braking makes a big difference even without an exhaust brake.

With the switch shut off,,, it will lock normally, I see you have a 96,, you may need a computer reflash, as some early 96 models , this switch will not work on till you get it reflashed at the dealer here is the part number for the flash you may need if its the early model.. Part No. 04886926.

I got my switch to work this morning. I unplugged the wires to the computer and found the B11 wire. I am gonna get another switch. The one I have now is one of those pull/push ones. I used this one just to see if I could get it to work. Thanks for all the help and replies.
