TO MUCH BOOST?
Just slid my stock plate foward made a very noticible difference ;D ;D ;D but ive noticed now at wide open throttle about 2000 rpm's and up my truck is making around 27 lbs of boost. why is this i thought the truck was only supposed to make around 22?? confused ???

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
i wont have a problem with the turbo handling that boost right

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
Nope! ;D ;D ;D

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
niiice ;D ;D ;D surprised how much the plate helped. cant wait til i get the new plate

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
If you have the fuel, you can go up to 36-38 psi before you start to super heat the air (your then out of the efficiency range of the turbo). I have mine set to 38 for most hills & loads. I can hit 40-42 on rare occations. I definately get out of it slowly when at those pressures. Over 32 and the turbo starts to sound different. Generally, the turbo's will stay together till approx. 46-49psi. (I'm assuming an HX35/12)

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
So if I slide my stock plate forward then the boost will go up with it? I thought that it was waste gated to make 19-20 lbs? Now im ??? Do I have to make a manual boost controller or no? If not Im going to slide it forward tonight.

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
i slid mine foward and didnt touch the wastgate elbow. it was like a miracle ;D

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
NICE. New project for tonight.

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
Stupid Question !!
What plate do you move forward to increase turbo boost ? Explain please Thanks, 03CTDCO |
Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
Its the fuel plate in 12 valve motor.

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
I had a #10 plate but I lost it last time I was in there ::) It runs super w/o a plate but I haave a 0 plate going in here soon as I get the money. Money [laugh] thats funny aint it :-

Stupid Question !! What plate do you move forward to increase turbo boost ? Explain please Thanks, 03CTDCO [/quote] Not really stupid at all. You've got a different engine. The plate sliding is something all of us 'properly valved' ;D folks do to get some extra HP. It's the forerunner to the Edge EZ (or comp if you go with a really aggressive plate.) If you want extra HP, you can buy a fueling box. I would definitely get gauges first, though! BTW...Welcome to the site. Once you start BOMBing, it's hard to stop!!! |
Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
I'M STILL CONFUSED HERE? I HAVE SLID MY PLATE FORWARD,AND DIDNT SEE ANY INCREASE IN BOOST? WHY WOULD MORE FUEL INCREASE BOOST? BTW I DID HAVE TO "PINCH" MY SIGNAL LINE TO INCREASE BOOST TO 30. IF IT MATTERS I LIVE AT 7000 FT

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
Fuel makes more boost by creating more heat energy which drives the turbo. Without any way of fooling the waste gate, you'll always get around stock boost pressures. Removing the waste gate signal is not good as, given the right conditions, you may overboost and grenade the turbo. Think of it this way - The waste gate is an "overflow" valve on a bucket that won't let you go beyond a certain point in filling this bucket. The fuel is the hose that fills the bucket. By increasing fuel, you just went from a garden hose to a fire hose but the overflow valve is still stopping you from going above that point. By restricing the overflow valve it will allow the buck to fill up more but still not go over the top. If you remove the overflow valve then your on your own to keep the bucket from going over the top.

I have seen 45psi out of my stock turbo but at that PSI the fuel that needed to get there was putting my engine in meltdown mode. I have clamped all the WB's on the 12v trucks around me. with the stock plate slid and wg unhooked you will have no problems with the turbo blowing up. I have a #10 and 370 injectors and no broblems. Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
Seen 47psi out of my stock 35 lots of times and no problems. I made my own fooler to keep her around 37-38.

Re:TO MUCH BOOST?
I've seen 40 out of my HY35 once. Seen the high 30's many times. I try and keep it down around 30-35 though. No problems yet though (knock on wood). Even after 20K+ miles. Shaft is still as tight as it was the day I got it.
