mpg setup?
bullboy-85. I'm on the same quest...mpg's.
First question-do you want the mods to actually pay for themselves?
If so you got to be self-employed and reap the tax deduction benefits.
I've tried a few things... best injector, imho, for the money, balanced 275's
I am currently runing M-2's (also very nice)but will try Kerma's 275 just for kickers.
Run A DTT for almost 400k-only had one hickup-broke inputshaft. Nice setup but this time I'm going with a Goerend triple disk and VB.(it's in the shop until tues.)(again, for mpg's, ditch the auto and put in a manual)
Tried/have FASS-no difference in mpg's but like the reliability, I might actually one day go to a cam and run the mech(lobepump) in series with the FASS.
Turbo - currently running a HTB2-12 but am in process of building a set of compound's.So far the PDR-40 with a 12cm2 rendered the best mileage.
If you tow you do not want to be "under" the turbo.
Tires, do not mess with them, if at all, a smaller tire up front.
Fluids-tried a few, AMSOIL 0-30 in the engine and LE-607 in the rearend is my combo.Gave the best result
Drop the front of the truck, to lower the frontal area and lower the pressure under the truck at speed. a third of the drag is fron the under carriage (by doing that you also increase the effiency of the radiators due to increased flow through them.)
With you flat bed, you are stuck-barn door aerodynamics-slow down is our only answer. The optimal speed is 45mph(for any vehicle) no fun...is it
Check out this link, I know it's a FURD but a very insightful article;http://www.dieselpowermag.com/featur...age/index.html
My 2 cents,
Good luck.

Oops, forgot a few.
Tried electric radiator fan-did nothing for me Anarkey;do you have a 12-valve?
Have a custom AFE intake with duct from bumper and 4 all the way, these two mods did nothing for mpg's, but sure made a difference @ WOT.
The best box for mpg's I tried, hands down is the smarty, second best an original VA stacked with an EDGE comp. (For fun VA&TST,sweet stack)
However when towing, be careful with timing boxes, head gasket seems to go they say.
(BTW my truck is an 02) These have been my personal experiences, again good luck! AJ

well its a work truck. i use the 4x4 weekly, lets say iv gotten veary familyer with approach angles and clearences. so i cant do anything to hinder those or the truck becomes less useful. agen need the flatbed for work, guess i could lose the bumper but then what would be the fun in that, and i have used it a few times. read the article before but not alot in there for a work truck that cant be altered that much. really the only time u should worry about timing boxes is in a ho. i know manual is the best on milage there alot more fun to drive but i had to get the auto for other reasons so im trying to make the best of it. im trying to do real little to the turbo till im ready for some twins. not worried about blowing and after market trans cuz im only planing on going to 350 maybe 400rwhp max. ill look into the le-607 for the gears, im sure all of that will help someone reading this, im looking for as maney ideas as i can find on here
Just FYI when you are typing and get a REDline under a word that means it's misspelled, try to get the right spelling.
I normally don't care about this sort of thing, ( i SUCK at spelling too) but it is very distracting when people are trying to help "decode" the misspelled words and get the correct meaning
.. again, just trying to help.
also interested in getting BEST mpg as possible
i like the 255 85 16 size tires. They are narrow for less wind drag and rolling resistance, and weigh less than big fat mudders. and being tall, they lower the RPM's at higher speed and you are actually driving farther that your millage indicator shows. still have a nice off road look too

sorry about the spelling, im deff not a english major, and i dont get any red lines or i would try and fix the words. tires are the one thing im doing that wont help but i like the look of wider tires and i like to play in the sand so wider means better out there. ok after my new hubs im getting 2 mpg better at around 55, witch is around 19.5, but at 65 im getting like 16 and in town im getting 11.5????? i know almost all of u guys got to be doing better then that?
if your really after mpg get a gear vendors. i have 5 speed manual and i can split every gear except 1st. at 75 im right at 1700 rpm. when ever i fill i average 25-28 mpg
. but its also a 2wd 2500, im going for 30 tho. looking at ddp2 and maybe at something like the ferd guy did. but im keeping my fan and such since i drive from baltimore to philadelphia 3 times a week. 110 miles each way. hope this helps

the price is around 2,500. i got my 95 for 4,500 bucks with the gv already in it. a heck of a find. just what i need/wanted. the gear vendors should pay for it self eventfully if you do alot of driving. if most of your driving is around town then it not worth buying. my mpg saver is a boost leak on my gauge.
when i hear hissing i know im around 5-10 psi i need to back down.

haha nice. and acculy mine does great out in the sand. running 265s right now looking forward to the 33's and a little more power from injectors and a good trany, looking forward to not bounceing alover the place too now that i got the new shocks in. anyways i thing the gv will have to be something i do later on down the road, 2,500 is a little steep when i dont even have the trany bult yet.
