Re:mega cannon or scotty?

[quote author=Jamie Attridge
I actully chose white because I thought it would actully be a bit cooler black holding heat more, any justice to this scotty? I know they changed the air box's on our yamaha motocross bikes to white to reduce heat?

A black surface will absorb more heat from the outside than a white surface will. That means a black scotty would (theoretically) transfer more heat from the engine compartment into the intake airstream.

While there is theoretical justification for white versus black, there won't be any practical difference and your pyrometer won't even notice, in my opinion. The best possible material for the scotty walls would be a highly insulative material with a reflective foil surface. But the advantage would be so marginal that there would (probably) be no practical benefit.

One possible explanation for a white airbox on the motocross bikes is to reduce heat absorption from the engine heat, and possibly from the sun.

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

I resent that being 20 and cutting my own hole, I could say that there was an older guy on here lar was his name and he screwed the hole up. So what gives? Don't always knock the younger generation. I installed every mod you see listed on my truck except the transmission, and Im only 20 everything works perfecty so next time cut the young guys a little slack. Come for a drive to T.O and I'll make sure you get your hole!

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

Getting a new upgrade part is a bonus. Having to buy a new tool to install the part is.... a double bonus.

Relax Jaimie...LOL...

It wasn't a direct shot, but you got to admit those shops are not a draw for the sharpest tools in the shed.. Most audio shops have some $7/hr kid installing $4000 systems and they haven't seen it all, and most make a mess of it.

Some of us have been around a bit at 20 doing our own work and would be comfortable doing it.

Tony just does have a good point!..Its just not pointed at you..LOL... 8)

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

Im not sure where you guys get your audio stuff but the boys around T.O actully have to have college degree's to work in the stores I know this because I own an audio store in partners with another guy. This is because of the new vehicles with onstar and such. All our guys are colledge trained in electronics, and more importantly car audio. I have one guy now who does all the installs for the york reginal police cars and he is only 23 years old. Not bad for a bunch of kids EH!

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

Sorry Jaime, I know most of you younger ones on here know your stuff, the comment wasn't directed at anyone here, but the kids in the audio shops around me, you wouldn't want them working on your stuff. I don't trust my truck to just anyone, and, how many of them actually know what a Scotty II is or where exactly that hole should be cut? ??? I don't see any RAMs in the parking lot, I see ricers.

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

TP I know the kids you are talking about. I started working on my truck when I was 18. But I know what I'm doing before I do it.
Dm01

Re:mega cannon or scotty?

Agreed I do see your point and there are those who I would not let in 10 feet of my truck either. Although I do have to give some credit and Im sure you do to there are some really nice looking ricers out there that the kids have worked on,
