Master/slave cylinder problems!!!!

My clutch will stay disengaged long enough for me to put the truck in gear and usually by that time its already taing off on me. Im talking this thing is scarry to drive right now! Ive done some searching and I think its the master and slave cylinders going out. But for some reason could there be some air in the lines. My resevoir was only about 1/2 full so I topped it off. I have not found if you can bleed the slaves on a NV4500, some say just to pump and pump and pump an pump to force the air out. If theres no air and I do that should I see some fluid somewhere, or not? I have read that slves leak externally??

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Jamie

u can't bleed these, I asked a bunch of people. Ur best bet without buying a new one is filling it up full, then take the slave out and push the slave rod by hand a bunch until u think all the air it out. Otherwise it has a leak, and will need to be replaced. Southbend has a great product.

It could be your throw out bearing is starting to go and is sticking.

Possible, but he said that the fluid was low. Sounds like a leak in the system.

plus the throw out bearing wouldn't let the clutch engage if the pedal is held down. it has to be the slave letting pressure off.

well that didnt last long!!!! As I pulled up to a buddies house to park I put the truck into 2nd and the clutch engaged itself, as it has been doing all day, then heard a slight slight pop??? And now the clutch pedal is as floppy as a dogs ear.

No fluid on the ground, same fluid level as when I topped it off today also

Any idea's?

Jamie

Thanks ahead of time.

Well the slaves off the 97's are supposed to be the good ones. SBC sells a sealed setup also.

nathlchamp,

take the slave out, and manually pump the rods, you should see ur problem by doing that.

It kinda sounds like your rod from your master cylinder may have disconnected from your clutch pedal.....it has a pin that goes through the pedal & a clip to hold it into place. I'd check that first.....if it is the hydraulics.....I have a hydraulic system for sale on ebay. I will remove it from auction & sell it to you cheap. I had to upgrade my system to run a dual disc....the Southbend kits are great if you have a upgraded clutch. If not....this one will work fine with a stock clutch.

So from what I understand you cannot just replace the slave, you have to replace both the master and the slave at the same time. right?

Anyone know if any of the local (autozone, orielly, etc.) carries one.

I know the OE part is like $260 and the south ben dpart is $240 plus its heavy duty.

Thanks

I bought a slave seperate from my local auto parts store. There is a roll pin that comes out to realease the line. It will bleed itself.

If thats the case ^, I have a good working stock master/slave i'll give u, it just has a cut line that would need to be replaced and bled.

edit: nevermind, I don't think u have the twist in type master, so that wouldn't fit.

Well I pulled the master, it was loose and greasy, and ordered one from autozone. The mechanic I talked to said that you can bleed them after you get everything put together. Well see.

Thanks for the input guys.
