Mad ecm and towing
Mad ecm and towing
I just ordered a mad ecm from Bob Wagner. Has anyone have towing experiance with this? I use the truck for daily cummuting and want the throttle response and low rpm torque. I also use the truck to pull our four horse trailer with living quaters on the weekends. I am currently running a Superchips D-box (same as an Edge EZ) and Dons Mach 1's with a Banks monster exhaust and a bhaf. I really like Don's injectors! The D-box and injectors are really working great togther, I just want more bottom end to get the trailer moving from a standstill. If the Mad ecm works as advertised I might have a D-box for sale!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Ya, my buddy has one in his 99' with a set of RV 275's and that thing is rediculous with the smoke.
I was kind of thinking of getting the MAD ECM until I saw how much smoke it makes.
The throttle response is incredible though!

The Mad ECM is great for towing or everyday driving. Just make sure you are running a fuel pressure gauge as the ECM tends to "need" more fuel. The smoke is controllable by your right foot. If you ease into the throttle and allow the boost to come up, smoke is acceptable. I am only running stock injectors, so this process works for me.

smoke is controllable with the MAD ECM. It just requires an adjustment to your throttle foot! As Marco has said, with the new ECM you can't just floor it from idle/standstill or it WILL fog your town. Ease into the throttle a bit and it works fine. I can leave fairly rapidly without much smoke until the comp is above 3x3, after that it's tough to keep clean.
As far as towing, I've pulled my 12k toy hauler with injectors/comp, injectors/MadECM, and injectors/Comp/MadECM up through the Sierra mountains with some long 6% grades. The best combo is with the ECM and comp on 1x2 or 2x2 for a little fueling, but it will get over 1300* in any of these configs if you push it.

yep smoke here too with very little pedal, but I'll take it for the low end difference everyday. I find once up to speed the trucks egt's are lower pulling than without the ecm upgrade but have no proof just observations
