LuK cerametallic !!! OR ???
LuK cerametallic !!! OR ???
I'm in dire need of a clutch. I've been looking at getting a LuK cerametallic Rep Kit. What do y'all think about that?? It is supposedly a lot beefier than the "Pro Gold" and it's a good price for the kit. I just don't think I have the funds for a south bend and I don't know what other options are out there. I want something to handle my comp box. My stock clutch was fine... It even withstanded 6 hooks to the sled last summer. I don't hook that often, just at my local fairs... I don't travel or get real serious with it. But a few weeks ago, I was at a bachelor party and decided to drag race across a hay field all night w/ comp on 5X5 and that put a hurting on it... so I gotta do something soon. The Luk cerametallic looks like the beefiest, best kit for the $$$ but I don't know for sure...
Looking for a little guidance,
Thanks,

All the major clutch companies make a clutch that will work in a Cummins powered truck but everyone I know that runs a stick will eventually upgrade to a South Bend clutch! I believe they are the best clutch for our trucks. Centerforce,Luk Hayes,Zoom all make good gasser clutches but are behind SB on diesels.
Clutch
That clutch your looking at is a very aggressive clutch you won't like it. I would check out South Bend clutches, I love mine nice easy pedal great clamping pressure and no chatter.

I just pulled the clutch out of a customers truck that was only 2 yrs. old and 25,000 miles on it. The clutch was jumping and chattering! The clutch disc had pulled apart at the rivots and only about 1/2 were left, this caused the problems. I flipped it over and it said LUK on it. The new clutch is South Bend, the pressure plate is heavier looking as is the disc, the rivots are hugh on the South Bend disc!!! I sure wouldn't want that LUK in my truck!
My problem is probably just ignorance. I don't honestly know what all the "Con O... Con FE... Con OFE" mumbo jumbo is about... I don't know which of their clutches I would need, and I don't want to get talked into a dual disc, top of the line, bad mamma jamma. I'm the type who would get talked into it, too. And I can't find any prices on the south bend. Are there any companies out there that are in between?? Better than Luk and not quite as good as South Bend? I don't know what to do now... I know that I didn't want the Pro Gold, but I thought the Cerametallic might be better....
I guess what I want is South Bend quality at an LuK price...LOL!!
Injector Jack, what did you mean by, " That clutch your looking at is a very aggressive clutch you won't like it. " ????
What won't I like about it?? Is it noisy??? Or not very streetable?? I just want to be clear on what you mean.
Thanks for the help so far guys,

I have no idea what a heavy duty LUK looks like but the stock replacement LUK that was in the truck is puny compared to the South Bend CON O.
O is for Organic lining
OFE is for 1 side organic and the other side Feramic lining
FE is for both sides Feramic lining
The O is better for smooth engagement. Nice to slip some to get a heavy load moving.
The OFE is a little grabby but not too bad in the middle.
FE is for performance with quick engegment. Drop the clutch and go!
I went with the O because he wanted a nice smooth feel while pulling out. And it will handle all power he has.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you are a sbc dealer. Most people don't have the extra 300.00 bucks it cost for the SBC sticker for the back window. Dif strokes for dif folks.

I can get any brand of clutch I need but the SB have been the best for the diesels. You just need to compare the differant clutches side by side and you can easily see the differance in them. You get what you pay for! I don't think they cost much more either!

Just curious, how does it feel trying to pull out with a very heavy load?? compared to a stock clutch.
clutch
The luk clutch you are talking about if i'm right is a button clutch with no springs in the hub. It will be aggressive may chatter and be grabby, it will hold good but will be hard on drive line and the fly wheel, Call south bend he will give you ideas for the clutch you need. i talked to him at PDR dyno day and bought my S/B from PDR.
