Loud Pop?????

So i was playing with a friend of mine coming into our development, got side by side and took off from a stop. Neck to neck untill we had to back out to turn into driveway right, I get out of truck and his girl says did you blow a tire or something....I said no why. They both say we heard like a backfire or pop. I never heard it so I dont know what to say. I know that my head gasket is seeping some water at the front of the head but no other leaks anywhere that I can see.

ANY IDEAS WHAT COULD HAVE WENT POP LIKE A TIRE BLOWING????

I can still build boost but I never looked at the gauges when running with him so I could only guess what the boost was. 45+ PSI im thinking....

If you heard a pop under full power no doubt its your headgasket. The initial pop is where the gasket leaks out just enough to compromise the chambers between the engine coolant and oil. If you keep driving eventually it will or could push all your oil into your radiator. I heard the same pop last time I blew my headgasket but truck kept running for white a while before noticing the low oil pressure

When it shifted did the Turbo "bark", I know the manual trans trucks will but I have never tried an auto.

When I let off it will bark sometimes under hard throttle. I try not to let it do it but have occasionally.

Do a pressure test on charge air system & cooling system. A leak should show. I suspect a charge air boot. They will blow with a good pop and yet hold lower bost levels.

I doubt it was you headgasket.

I agree with fuelingaround. Check the intercooler boot that comes off the intercooler on the passenger side. These are known to pop/tear because it rubs against the fender edge causing a weak spot.

I blew the intercooler inlet boot off a few times it makes a loud pop much like a tire blow.

when you here that pop with a stock head gasket you'll put oil or water out between the block and head if you got the mls head gasket you might not

I know the pop when the pump gear slips on a 12 valve.
He's got a 24 valve?
