locking wastegate?????
locking wastegate?????
What have you guys used to lock your wastegate closed on you turbos? I want a cheap way of doing it. so plz tell exactly what parts it takes to complete the j hook.
I used a turnbuckle that you can find at any local hardware store. I don't know if you know what the are or not, but I will explain anyway just incase someone else doesn't.
The turnbuckle has 2 hooks facing opposite directions from each other and thread into a rectangular piece of metal. One hook as a right handed thread and the other has a left handed thread. So when you turn the center piece of the turnbuckle it will tighten up.
The one that I used was a 7/32" thread and was 4" to 6" in length. You take one end and hook it on the back of the wastegate acctuator and the other on a lip on the bottom of the turbo right above the wastegate acctuator head. You might have to do a little bending of the hooks to get it to hook good.
Also watch out after you put it on, they tend to vibrate loose and fall off!! You can also get a longer turnbuckle and hook it onto your fitting on top of your oil filter ( lot less chance of it vibrating loose ) plus you can actually get your hands on the dang thing to really tighten it down. It doesn't pull hard enough to worry about bending your oil line so I wouldn't worry about that.
I did another version involving a spring so that I could adjust my boost instead of completely locking it shut...................I have some pics in my gallery if you want to take a peek?
The turnbuckle itself cost like $3.00 if that!!!
