Just installed the quad std. Not working.
I just installed the quadzilla std and commander. Nice setup untill it quit. I need some advice as to the problem. I hooked everything up it all worked, the commander changed the chip through the three settings. I drove around for about 1/2 hour with the wife and kids, (had to be nice) so not sure how crazy it is but it was strong. I stopped and talked to a friend and the truck set the check engine light, and the std box was flashing RGGR like the start up test. I shut the truck off, and turned the key on it did the RGGR flash then went back to the setting that it was (#2 so orange) I changed the level on the commander the light changed on the chip like it is supposed to, but as soon as I started it the chip went back to the RGGR flash. Runs like it's in the stock pos. I have checked all the connections all tight still, but the same deal of work as long as the engine is off but flashes RGGR as soon as the motor is running. (no matter how many times I've started it.) Help!!!!!!!
I have no way of reading codes anymore.

Quad,
I talked to tech support this morning, they said send it back to get it reflashed. I had to drive it home as it was because no time at work to disasemble but now I have a new problem. I was driving home tonight and the truck died. There is no check engine light. The key on off three times shows no code. Now I have a dead chip and a dead truck. I took everything back off to make sure the chip wasn't keeping it from starting. I put the map sensor back and the two wire taps unplugged it still will not start I can hear the lift pump running and thats all I know. Dead truck dead chip...........now what?

Sounds like the VP44 died. Sorry to give you the bad news you already suspect. Is your VP original? Many early year trucks killed their VP's in very short order when using a wire tap box be it edge or whatever. Sorry dude.
Usually, not always, but, usually if you have a dead pump it will throw some codes.
Based on what I am hearing it sounds like it may be a dead MAP sensor. These modules watch for a boost signal to come out of startup loop. It is a long story why we do this but, basically we are looking for about .2thenths of a volt on the MAP sensor before the module will actually work. With it starting over and over it sounds like the MAP sensor may be dead which would not be uncommon on these older trucks.
Now with that said usually the MAP sensor will throw codes as well? If it is broken badly enough to not start I would think it would throw a CEL??
That is my take at this time. I am guessing the chip is not really dead because if you plugged everything up besides the MAP sensor the module will do this exact same thing. I would love to check it to make sure but, it does not sound "broken".
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge or anything like that?
I would also check fuses to be certain everything is ok there.

I got a scan tool from the local garage,
It showed codes p0237
and code p1693.
First is map,
second is something related to the vp44
Now I have another question. On the firewall at the pass the far right connector the orange with a black tracer wire is cut out and a diff one spliced out of the harness that runs across the firewall down to the comp on the motor. What does it do?
How do I check the Map sensor?

Ok, make sure that you have the module tapped into the correct power fuse. The only way I know of to get the 0237 is to have the power wire plugged into a keyed power fuse. The fuse we recommend in the manual is hot all the time.
Sort of a long story like I mentioned above but, the module requires a 12v all the time power. If not you will set a 0237 code and the truck will run in a basic limp mode.
Check that and get back to us.
1693 means there is a code in one of the modules which is probably the 0237, erase and disregard that.

The fuse tap is on the top of fuse 14 that the manual told me to use. The wire I was asking about has been on the truck since I bought it. The commander and the quad std are both hooked up just like the manual tells me to. They are very simp to install. But just to be sure I went back out in the rain and rechecked everything. All just like it should be but still will not start. The truck cranks and the LP runs. I cleared the codes and cranked on it several times then re-checked for codes it shows that there are no codes present.
Ok,
I have been over everything with a fine tooth comb, The LP works great, soaked the underside of the hood when I cracked the banjo bolt. Everything plugged in ok. Would the MAP sensor keep it from starting?

I can make it not start but, it depends on what is really wrong.
The thing that bugs me is that it won't start in stock trim. Once we get it started the module troubleshooting is pretty easy.
First thing to check on the MAP sensor is the signal wire. Turn the key on and check PIN C on the MAp sensor and see if it is producing any signal at all. Should be around .5v with the key on. If you are not sure which pin is #C just look on our harness. It will be the same pin that has the light blue wire coming out of it.
Start there. Then the other wires are 5v and ground. You can check both of those if you want?

Not sounding good. But that does help me troubleshoot the module. I am guessing the boost sense circuit is out and that is why the power is not there? That would explain the module staying in the start up loop.
I would contact your local Cummins dealer and see if they will test the pump for you. It would probably be cheaper than taking it to Dodge!!!

Quad,
I'm about 2 hours from any shop. I live in the stix, I'll get the quad off and sent to you this week sometime. I think I'll go ahead and order a new vp44 as bad as I hate that thought. But I love the truck and I would fix it again.....
