Question Installing a FASS HPFP

Ok... some questions before I start....
I was reading over the install documents and I became a little worried...
specificaly THIS:
Usually the FASS only encounters hard starts on the 1998.5 – 2002 Dodge Cummins with the VP44 injection
pump. If this occurs it is usually on a VP44 with high mileage, and/or a VP44 that has been subjected to around
5psi of fuel pressure or less

As far as I know.... my LP is original and so is my IP (ok... I know I'm a VERY HIGH MILES truck for this to be the case). I just discovered that my LP was cutting out (who knows for how long), am I going to create problems by installing this new LP?

Also, will I need to drop my fuel tank to install the new line that comes with the pump? or can I just reach up to the top of my tank and disconnect the old fuel line?
My new pump should be here friday so any feed back I can get on installing this new pump before then would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

I installed mine on a 2002 with 95k miles. I think my IP was already damaged by bad LP. Installed HPFP, truck drove fine other than some occasional dead pedal. Replaced IP 3k miles later, but I don't think the FASS killed it, it was already going.
Never had a hard start issue.
Don't drop the tank. Get a piece of string or wire wrapped around the connector where the push release buttons are. Pinch the tabs by pulling the string tight around the connector and it will pop off.
If it cold, keep the fuel lines somewhere warm until you try to push onto connectors, it is a tight fit.

Fingers Crossed

Thanks for the response...
after I posted I actually did a search, found lots of good info on the install process so I'm no so worried about that.
However
I am worried about my IP status, so far EVERYTHING on this truck has been original. I dont think my LP has been dropping pressure for long... definitely no codes, dead pedal or anything else that would imply bad things in my future. But still worried about killing my IP if I haven't already.

You won't know your pump is bad until fails or starts throwing codes. Put in the FASS and hope for the best. If your pump is fine, you are just doing it a better service from here on out.
