HX40 Question

Ok......Hi folks......Glad to be here.

I have a 2001 2500 2wd auto that is BONE stock with 176,000 on it (other than the obligatory temp gauges).....Has been used for long and many hauls of a light single car hauler just about exclusively and has been babied. I have been VERY pleased with the truck as other than normal maintenence I have had to do NO work on this truck......

I recently replaced it with yet another diesel ram and it is now going to be my play truck.......over the next few months as funds allow I intend to upgrade it into the mid-400 HP range. My plan was to start with a full swap out of the tranny to a DTT but something has come up......The little engine that could (the 9cm stock holset) has started making some pretty impressive protesting noises when boost starts building. Now replacing the turbo was farther down the list of mods but it looks like I cant wait much longer.

My question is............My plan was to end up with a PDR HX-40, since I am now faced with either rebuilding the little 9 or replacement, can I get away with installing the HX-40 now? I would very much like to go ahead with the HX-40 but I dont want to cause additional issues to pop up as a result......

All else about the truck would be stock for a couple months other than a NAPA 2790 air filter and the 3" exhaust is a straight pipe......I would of course continue to "baby" it until I get the tranny change done and the exhaust upgraded to something that will breath better...... ;D

Thanks in advance for your input!

Re:HX40 Question

You can get away with installing the PDR HX40 now,
but you will need a 4" downpipe and 4" exhaust to utilize it.

Also, if you are stock it will make the truck more doggish while driving in town.

--Justin

Re:HX40 Question

Thanks for the input......I had found out what you stated already though......I picked up the phone and called Piers ;D

As for the exhaust.....could not find anyone who could bend 4" on short notice but one of my best friends owns a Midas shop. The HX40 comes with a 4" downpipe that turns back and runs about 6" parallel with the ground. So the plan is use a straight piece of 4" back to in front of the rear axle and a homemade "Y" to two 3" pipes which we can bend......

Bottom line is the HX40 is shipping today.....Al@Piers advised me that the truck would be sluggish at low rpm until I could get some more fuel to it but I can live with that for now. Besides the tranny is still stock so I dont need to be romping on it until I can upgrade it........
