HX-35/40 with 18.5

Well I have everything all apart and a day or so waiting for parts so have been thinking.

What would the difference be between my HX35-18.5 and replaceing the compressor housing for the HX40. What do you think the difference would be.

I currently cruise at 10 pounds or less and max boost is 30 with 28 the usual wot. Only get the 30 when winding up through the gears.

Just wondering about spool up and max pressure, any ideas?

With the stock turbo, I had 1150 max EGT's. With the 18.5 I get 1250 often. Sort of hoping to lower that again.

Good question Bill. I don't know. However, with your loads, would the turbo you have now be more reliable? I thought that the HX40 had a weaker shaft.
Anyone know for sure?

Mike I would be keeping the hx35 but adding the 40 compressor for a hybred. I have two hx 35 turbo's and the 40 with the broken exhaust impeller. Should be a shoe in deal, if it would help anything.

I see. I don't know. Try it and see. You've already had everything else apart, might as well try it and see for yourself.

how many blades does the 40 have? do you have a micrometer? a size in mm would be helpful, although it will almost definitely be at least a little better. probably quite a bit. the bigger the wheel, the cooler your temps will be. it'll take a few more rpm's for the boost to hit (bigger wheel=more rotating mass=slower spool), but well worth it.

dave

ps. max pressure shouldn't change too much, as it has more to do with the fuel you're pushing.
