How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Jet,

Same thing happened here. A friend in the Camaro club invited me to a dyno event and since I helped build and tune the small block in his car I wanted to go and play.

Not one car was over 500HP. Even the guys on the bottle.

I was listening to one fella say how he had at least 750HP with his nitrous set-up on a 468 BB. More like 331HP. Yep 331.

He left about 20 minutes later. ???

Don~

Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
The car ran terrible. It was one good looking ride but he performance was lame. Poor fella was not all smiles when he left that day.

For some comparison numbers most of the small blocks ran around 300HP and the BB were cranking about 375-400.

Ours was like 335HP.

Don~
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
a friend of mine has nitrous on his truck. he has it on two stages- first shot at 4psi and the second at 20psi. with a couple dyno runs, it was fairly easy to tune with BD5's and an HX-40. i'd go in debt with NOS as it cost $4.50 a pound at the dyno place and you're talking well over 100 pounds in the tank
however, bigger injectors. maybe BD 7's with twins seems like a good combo depending on the size of the turbo, boost, etc. etc.

Tom

Just ask all the folks at the Mopar National Car show who dynoed.... Only 2 were above 500, one at 505 and one at 502. Both were blown Hemi's. Only thing much over 500 HP was a little old 6 cylinder Cummins
.

Doug
[/quote]

actual it is a small block... if your buy it i will pay to prove it for u...

Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
An often overlooked option for some quick and easy HP is something a friend of mine did....yank the mechanical radiator fan and go with dual electric fans. Just doing that jumped him up 20rwhp. He is dynoing right now at 530/1104.

Will
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Hey Jetpilot,
On the NOS issue you seem to be the resident expert, so how do you feel it treats your truck? I mean is it just like putting twins on and getting more air in their? I use to be a drug-free freak, but now I don't know anymore. I have got over 500hp and I believe in everyday usable hp, but if I get twins I am going to be breaking everything everyday and the trucks not usable when its sitting in the drive waiting on parts. I mean $500 for NOS and 200hp, that is bang for your buck. Plus its kind of like a box, just use it when you need it. I guess my concern would be what harm it causes to the engine. What are your feelings on this?
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Almost everything we do to increase engine output directly relates to more wear. As for how does it treat your engine..... Well its pretty rough on it. I only use it for dynoing and drag racing. It is also expensive to run, I use about $15+ of N02 per 1/4 mile run down the strip. Plus if you want to do N02 right you will need to buy dyno time to tune it correct. There is also the issue of heating the bottle to the right pressure to get the proper N02 shot.

If you are wanting everyday HP then twins are the way to go if you can afford them. You can always turn down the box for less HP to keep from breaking things. Also you will get overall lower egt's and faster spoolup with the twins. But (always one of these) you will not make as much HP with twins as you will with N02.
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Depends on the set of twins that you are running, JP!
Remember, they call NOS a drug for a reason!

I say try the NOS and when you destroy your engine, rebuild it with twins.

Twins are more streetable than a big single, and just like the NOS button, YOU are responsible for what parts your breaking.
You have no idea twins are under there, until you mash that go pedal.

I am bewildered at your fuel mileage, I don't know how you do it.
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
I guess I finally got smart enough to stop standing on it 24/7!

Anytime you mash it, the Left front picks up and heads for the other lane, the Detroit Locker pushes you straight, you can feel the truck just twisting, traction is a thing of the past, the *** end keeps trying to pass the front, the thing is getting dangerous, I'm telling you, you have to keep off of it!

I never use full throttle to pass people, it is just too wild of a ride.

;D
2) I want TWINS! :'(
Maybe next year when the truck is paid off [undecided]
3) [last] I can't wait for my #10 plate so I don't have to use full throttle to pass! Had to keep it on the floor today to pass 5 cars held up by a slowpoke...oops don't think they liked the smoke!

Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
Hey hey hey. lets not start trashing novas here just yet.
My little chevy II is waiting for me to build it a very streetable 454 SMALL BLOCK! thats right worlds casting finally got around to topping there 427small block with a 454 small block.. yay me. I had planned out around a streetable 500hp on the 427 maybe ill bump that up to 550hp and 650+ tourq with the 454. Not to bad for a car with a curb weight of 2600lbs. Obviously thats naturally aspirated. NOS and blowers are cool but I dont know that I want to do that to my little deuce. As it is I think I might be in danger of twisting the unibody all up even with frame ties. So yeah thats my rant. So while your all here what do you think is the most power you can get out of a 12v with least trouble and still maintain the longevity of the motor and drive train?
Thanks again for hearing me out guys ;D
Chris

Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
The drivetrain is up to the driver, regardless of power.

350 is a nice, safe range.
450 is a enough to get into trouble.
550 can still be streeted, but more than enough to trash whatever is behind it.
I'm sure I never used all 550 towing, so anything over that is really overkill for hauling, in my opinion.
Re:How Do You Get Above 500 HP???
I dont really pull anything except my nova between body shops
. I just didnt want to be raceing some rice rocket on the street poping the clutch in 2nd and jamming gears and watch the bits fall out of my rear end in the mirror have the universals explode or something dumb. What #plate for my year would you say is around 350hp? and would I need the 370 injectors? I doubt twins are nessasary.. I think
