i recently hood stacked my 1st gen. much easier without all the angles, just up and out. i did it for a few reasons...
1. it's different (lol that's for sure)
2. Got the spare hood for $20
3. I am going to be installing twins, while in process i can remove the hot pipe use the hood stack and take my time building the real exhaust i will need

i was actually able to use a "dynomax bullert" glasspack muffler it's 3.5 inlet and outlet. the exhaust makes a short 90 about 2 inches of pipe, then the muffler is 16in from tip to tip. even has the rain flapper on it, lol. i think the theme of my truck is "big and ugly" so it fits right in! I've been running it for about a month now with absolutely no hassles from the police and it's not loud at all... the only time i have to worry about windows down is stop and go traffic when the wind is blowing just right. When up to speeds there are not issues.

in regards to the federal overrides state it is argu-able but true. as said earlier each state has its own rules and regs on were the exhaust has to exit so if you did get caught and it was illegal it would go to state court. which would probably be thrown out because of it being so redicules.

It would be cool, but I'm surprised no one else has mentioned that they could fine you for not having a CARB approved or street legal exhaust. That includes a cat or any other exhaust emission stuff. And a hood stack is, uh, kinda hard to miss...

I used to live in New Mexico and badmike is right. Its about the only state I would try it in but its very easy to pass inspection.

OK doesn't even have vehicle inspections. But I'm with wcbcruzr, it does not meet the federal requirements. Not even close.

badmike... if you flipped the turbo you would need to "clock" it. when it is off, remove the bolts that hold on the exhuast housing and remove it (takes some force sometimes) hit the SIDE of the housing to break it loose to not try to knock it off. loosely mount the turbo back together and you should be able to spin the housing with a little effort. mount it to the exhaust manifold and spin it so that the oil drain is straight down. then all you have to do is rework the oil drain and find a pressure line that is long enough. oh and intake and the IC hose...

You have a tough looking truck. To be honost, I think a pair of miter cut stacks would look better than a hood stack.

[QUOTE=Truckman0097;1638120]That is right for Ohio, I would check the laws in your state more closely before you start a mod like this....[/QUOTE
