Question holly pump

well, putting on the juice/ att. this weekend and was wondering about the lp. if mine is weak, i thought about putting on the holley blue by the tank. i've used alot of these pumps on the older ford idi's and know they put out a heck of a stream. my question is, can you run the original wire from the carter to the holly and make it work the same or would you need a different wire set up? thanks, dave.

are you going to run it as a helper or a primary? if primary yes, if helper, some do with no trouble, some say if puts more volts though the ecm. I just ran a wire thats hot when the key is on to mine, or you could use a relay off of it to power the holley

holly

ya, i'm going to just bypass the carter and run only the holly. i just figured it would be easier to run the original wire if it would work. those blue pumps are sure loud, but they sure will pump out alot of fuel. i doubt if you could even hear em with the cummins running. dave.

I know I can't hear mine with it running. Been running for coming on 3 years I believe. Got 40k or so miles on it. Even with everything turned to kill it'll still hold 11-10psi at WOT and it idles at 15. I just ran a relay triggered off of the stock lift pump harness to power the holley.

I run mine with the stock lp wiring. No relays or anything. I do have a Vulcan kit that included a longer wire to reach back to the fuel tank.

I stretched the spring some and I get about 16 at idle and 12-13 at WOT. I've been like this for about a 8k miles with no problems.

another thing i'm wondering about is how it runs. i know your supposed to bump the starter to activate the pump, but for some reason mine will run with just turning the key on. it's done this for the 5 years i've owned it. what gives? dave.

When I turn the key to "on" the lp just runs for about 1 second to get some fuel to the ip. If you bump the starter, the lp should run for around 20 seconds. I believe this is how it's supposed to operate.

i just installed mine yesterday, and with the carter pump and the scotty fittings i'm running 24 psi @ idle i'm wondering if this is too much. i ran an old piece of 2 strand extension cord from the pump to the stock pump and used one of those cheap splice connectors and all seems to be working fine so far.

thats not to much fuel pressure. I recently installed a holly black pump with a new lift pump. i spliced the signal wire from the stock harness to a relay that the pump runs off of. now it cycles with the origional pump. I caouldent ask for better, 27 psi idle, 22 1/2 throttle, 15-16 WOT

I talke to Chip at Blue Chip (who we got the pumps thru) and he stated anything over 25 is not recommended. ??? ??? If you tapped into the hot wire (signal wire) on the stock plug, will it cycle with the stock pump??? Do you really need a relay ??? Will it hurt if it runs all the time????

I'm thinking of getting a Holly Blue as a backup. Mine is fine now and I can here the stock Carter run at Idle. I also relocated it back to the tank.

you just tap in to the wire, not cut it off. it will still run the stock pump and trigger the relay.
we had a big thread on tdr about the fuel rpessure thing, and had some very knowledgeable people and some people who had talked with bosch engineers, basically up to I think like 40 psi the trucks made more power, over it diddnt make a difference, nothing hurt the pump up to 75 psi

i'm with kipo on the running all the time. i always just ran the hot wire to the key switch and let it run all the time when i had the old ford idi's. with these goofy vp's , would it hurt to run all the time? dave.

it doesnt hurt it but if you leave your key on for something why let the pump run? Im sure there is some other circumstance to where it would be handy to not have it run but I cant think
