High temp coatings
High temp coatings
I get deals on getting things HPC'd and I was thinking about getting both my exhaust housings coated (twins) and the hot pipe. The only problem is the melting point of the coating is 1450 (the pretty stuff that I want). Would this be ok , its not like I would be driving around with crazy egts. I am a firm believer in this stuff for keeping things cool.
Any input?

What you want is ceramic-aluminum coating.
This stuff WILL NOT burn off.....period.
There are quite a few companies that do the "thermal barrier" coatings.
It can be polished to almost a chrome finish and is VERY durable.
my 2 cents

My favorite is Swain Tech. NO the cheapest, but probably the best.

As for temps, 1450 is PLENTY. You could see 1600° EGT, and the external coating will never see over 1000. The temp of the EGT and the temp of the actual housing or manifold or WAY different.
Ditto the ceramic-aluminum, if you don't go Swain.
