Help me select the proper intake.

Slowly but surely I'm building my truck the way I want it.

Now whats a good intake to start with?

I love AFE, but the cost of the Stage 2 is ridiculous...

S&B looks good and the price is right on.

I've always been a fan of AEM since my Sport Compact days...

What do you use?

Whats the best value?

Whats the best?

I have the stock intake still.

BHAF is the best value.

I'll stay out of the "best" argument...

You definitely dont need a stage 2....the stage 1 AFE is good for 400+ hp...

The S&B actually looks like a good setup.

You could make your own intake too....chuNk of PVC and an AFE or AEM filter for around $50-100....fyi, AFE now has a washable, nonoilable filter just like AEM

Why spend $60 on a throw away filter? You can get a washable, non oilable filter for the same price and it will last for years and years. Running a BHAF no longer makes sense to me.

As far as I can tell AFE flows the most and still offers good filtration with the pg7. You don't have to get the stage 2, there's a stage 1 or replacement filters you can mount like a bhaf.

Or you can just get a drop in afe and run the stock box- good for 500 hp. Only real downside I found to the stock air box is the filter would jump around when the turbo barked.

Does the AFE Stage 1 work well?

What makes it different than the stage 2 aside from the cover?

Does it retain the Filter Minder?

Does it have the non-oil filter available?

Does it use the stock airbox or replace it?

Stage one has a heat sheild instead of the box. The stage 2 comes with a new tube while the stage one uses the stock one. Filter minder is in place. Afe are oiled filters and replace the air box, or there are drop ins that will work with the airbox.

Not exactly...AFE now has nonoiled washable filters (AFE Pro Dry) just like AEM:

to tell you the truth I didn't even think about that until you said it I just didn't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on a complete setup you make a good point though

I contacted Larry about a Stage 1.

Funny how there are no pictures up on AFE's site - I'd fire their whole marketing department.

Stage 1 is just basically the filter mount and filter and it looks like this:

http://www.usdieselparts.com/moreinf...d_7_Intake_Kit

Stage 2 has a torque tube and puts the filter in a box....and yeah, its not cheap - looks like this:

http://www.usdieselparts.com/moreinf...e_2_Intake_Kit

I dont think you can go wrong with the optional Proguage 7 filter - its really worth the extra $$

Stage 1 does
Stage 2 I dont think so (but dont know for sure)

Not sure, the nonoilable AFE filters are quite new - a call to AFE should clear that up.

All aftermarket "performance" intakes replace the stock factory air box....it just doesnt seal well and you have the possibility of letting unfiltered air in. On my 12V I could actually hear the filter drop down when I let off the go pedal = not good.
