Re:headlights

I guess HID headlights are more popular in some areas than in others. Where I live, I doubt there are too many offices that DON'T know what HIDs are. A lot of officers are car enthusiasts and deal with expensive vehicles (with HID) all the time.

DF5152....Nice Truck...BTW, I noticed from your sig that you live on Long Island. I've got relatives in Lindenhurst.

Re:headlights

I put a set of 9007 Silvania SilverStars in rig last week. That made a big difference! You can get a pair at Wally World for $37.93. I also put a set of SliverStars in the fog lights (9006) to match the color of the headlights. Man are they bright! They are $37.93/pair as well. The SilverStars do put out more lumens (a measure of light) than standard halogens.

Some of those funky "superwhite" blue bulbs actually put out fewer lumens than regular halogens. Someone said to stick with name brand bulbs, like Silvania, Phillips, or PIAA, and I agree (after having tried some of those crappy import blue bulbs).

Check out their web site for more information:

Re:headlights

The few cops I've talked to said they knew what HID was, and didn't have an issue with it. But DID have an issue with non-DOT bulbs they often find in cars that are trying to replicate the "HID look".

I think they basically treat those like tinted headlight covers.

Lots of people probably wouldn't know what you were talking about it you mentioned HID lights...but EVERYBODY knows them when they see them.

Re:headlights

This would be a good real add on HID conversion for low beams.

Re:headlights

PIAA Superwhites are brighter than the Silvania SilverStars
I tried both and took back the Silvania SilverStars...The PIAA's
are also more money.

PIAA makes superior lighting products and back up what they
sell...I purchased a set of yellow ion driving lights from them
years ago for my Integra, I noticed the beam pattern was
differrent between the two. I used them for over a year
before I wrote PIAA a letter. I was contacted by one of
their engineers and we discussed the problem. I was given
a prepaid UPS ticket and mailed them back to the Beverton
OR site...3 weeks later (after they verified the bad pattern)
they sent me a complete new kit free. I believe they were
PIAA 1000 series ion yellow driving lights.

PIAA should be tried by more people on this site.

Probably the best performance u will get is from Sylvania Silverstars or PIAA bulbs....

I am running those "silverstars" and they work pretty good. I am thinking of installing some aftermarket driving lights though, up here in the winter we only get 6 1/5hrs of daylight, and those pesky moose are a BIG critter to hit at 70+mph!

Re:headlights

I have tried the Piaa and really liked them. I used the 510 white drivers and and old 70 series fog both worked great but were expensive

Re:headlights

I could not agree more with the above positive comments about PIAA lighting. They are simply the best, and stand behind there products. Only complaint I hear is the high cost, but the best usually does cost the most. They also come with a lifetime waranty, which covers any problems. I just purchased two sets of Piaa lights. One there new 525 series and the other the new 550. Both are quiet interresting, they not only look great with there multi-colored lense, and guards. But these two series come with LED's that light when the lights are off, giving the lights a glowing look. They are awesome day or night, and give a truely unique look. I found that Auto Profection hade the best deals on Piaa lighting.

Re:headlights

I think you get what you pay for. The PIAA's are $$$, but are a quality product and like was said before, stand behind their product 100%. I got mine from www.central4wd.com, and I thought they had the best price! They offered free shipping too. Here's a shot of my 520's. As I said earlier, they light up a dark highway with a bright amber light. Very narrow aperture.

Re:headlights

don't worry about the cops. when they pull you over, just go tell him to look at your headlights as you turn on your high beams. they can't do anything otherwise. as for HIDs, I have some in my S-10 and the difference is amazing, I can see about a half mile down the road, they are awesome and I will definately be getting some for my ram as soon as I get the sport headlight housings. you can get them on ebay for around 350-400 bucks that are designed to replace regular bulbs, they have the same mounting, and all you do is plug your harness into the ballast. these are even designed as to where the focal point in the bulb is the same as the bulb that its replacing so that you don't have to worry about blinding people, and getting an awesome pattern of light.

Re:headlights

Also for the guy's that want the blueish HID look, Piaa has a replacement lamp for you. And if you just want better lighting, without the blue, they have that too. Just click on this and go to lamps www.autoprofection.com
