GSK Kits
GSK Kits
Ok i am not wanting to make power without doing the trans first, but am i mistaken that the GSK would not make power just get the truck revving faster and pulling longer. If it doesn't i think i might give it a try. Would the 3K one be good or is the 4k one better. I really do not want to revv the engine past 3100 maybe because its got 200,000 miles. It is very strong running however. How big of a difference would it make because it seems like my truck gets going pretty fast. Is there any way to tell if you have one already on it?
Thanks Adam

Get the 3k kit. Do this... Start the truck and let it idle in park. Then push the pedal down and try to hold the rpms at 1600. If you find that it's very difficult because the pedal is so touchy then you DO have the gsk kit already. And yes, I believe the gsk doesn't add any power, just makes it rev faster and longer. Just cause it doesn't add power doesn't mean it's stock auto tranny safe though. You can break your input shaft if driven too hard.
The stock gov. springs begin to defuel at 2600 rpm (or so). A 3K GSK will continue to power up to, and over 3K RPM. The difference in getting up to the speed you want will surprise you. I installed one on my '98 to help me accelerate onto freeways when pulling my RV. There was more power available when it upshifted and it just kept pulling harder.
I understand the 4K GSK can be more difficult to adjust and can adversely affect shift patterns too.
