Gsk??????
Gsk??????
I plan on doing this soon. I been searching all over and have found 3k,4k and 5k spring kits. I understand that with the 4k and 5k different valve springs are needed. But is there really advantage to revving a 12v that high or when is it too much? At some point the motor will stop making usable or get out of the power range of the camshaft. Is the 4k and 5k more for competition use (drag racing /sled pulling) or could it be useful on a everyday setup?
Honestly, a truck with a stock cam wont make a lot of power over 3k from what I have seen... I did gain some power down low going from a 3k to a 4k though. Just seems to fuel a little harder. A 3k, or 4k either one is fine for daily driving. Just because you have a 4k, doesent mean you have to use the RPM's.

I agree with whats already been said. I put A 4K kit on my 96 and the throttle response got quicker through the whole RPM range. It pulls to and past 3K scary fast compared to without the kit. I try not to push it much past about 3200. Under WOT I use 3K as the shift point now.

The stock gov. settings ( depending on the pump) start to defuel around 2200-2400 , and usually limit max rpm around 2750-3000. a 3K GSK will hold the pump to full fuel right up to or around 3000 RPM.
IMHO , anything above a 3k Kit is pretty much competition only , unless you like street racing.
