I bought a used edge comp off ebay for my friends 01 cummins, got a real good deal, seller has positive feedback. He said it was for an 01, and he had it installed on his 01 cummins, but I got it in the mail, and the box itself is for 98.5-2000, but it has the proper adaptors for the map and data, will it still work, given that the seller said he had it on his 01, I would say it should, if the programming is different, it wont hurt the truck will it? I really appreatiate any replys.

Same program for all 24v years, just different wiring harness'. If the plugs fir you will be fine.... If they are the wrong ones there are adapters to make it work.

Ok, excellent, he doesnt even know I got it yet, weve been looking for one for his truck for a long time now, didnt want a juice, I found this one on ebay for $275 shipped. almost a steal, So I wanted to make sure it was good and would fit before I call and tell him.

I just read several other posts that said the map voltages were different, and some said they were the same, so I just needed some clarification.

 

Will you be my friend also ???? I could use a couple of friends like you. . The comp will work fine with the correct hookups as stated.

 

As far as I know a box for a 98.5-2000 won't work on an 01-02. The programming is different but I could be wrong, but I think it thats how it is.

 

Oh, hes payin for it, I just bought it for him cause he dont have an ebay account. another multiple-opinion thread, ha ha, Maybe there is somebody that has actually done it? I read it wont work and it will work from an equal amount of people, I am thinking it will, cause the chip came with all the hookups for an 01, flat map sensor connector, and 3 pin data link. So obviously he must have had it on his 01 as he said. anyone could be right I guess, I will install it tomorrow on his 01, and then I will post back on the results, so we can all sleep better.

I just talked to Edge about putting an EZ from a 98.5-00 on an 01 and they said it would not work because the MAP sensor runs at a different voltage on the '01's. I would imagine it is the same for the comp. box.

The MAP voltage for the '01-'02s are different than the earlier models, so even if the plugs fit, it won't read the amount of boost properly.

 

I emailed Edge and they said it won't work. Look on the back of the comp, it will say where it's for a 98.5-2000 or for a 2001 or 2002. I also have one I would sell at that price.

 

Somthing dosent sound right, There are adapters for the 98.5-00 to 01 or 02, I've seen it done and work fine? Guess we'll find out!

 

i wonder if edge came out with a special adapter for this purpose...or maybe they should!

i cant seem to find such an adapter on any sites for sale (just the 01 to 02), but i have seen ebay sellers selling a comp and make a note that they have the correct adapter for a 98-00 to 01 or 02. i usually dismissed them as not knowing their own product, and trying to make a sale.

i guess if contact to edge has been made and they say no, then its no. but from other accounts just in this thread it sounds like they do exist.

I've seen guys who have used the earlier year ones on an 01 and 02 with no problems. If it was a problem I don't see why EDGE would sell the adapter harness to make them work.

Exactly, wouldnt make sense to me, but edge says so,

I still have the box my comp for my 99 came in, I bought it brand new, it came with an adaptor for the 01 style data link connection, but not map

 

Did you email the seller and see if that was the right box or just a box he had? Maybe he had an older truck with a comp on it before.

 

Maybe the adapter harness has resistor in it to correct the map signal.
