Yes,
They will lower your engine RPMs and save you some fuel. It will take many, many miles before you break even. I love the gear vendors unit, had one in an old work truck.

I've had my GV for two years, It improves milage 1-2 mpg depending on driving. I tach about 1450 rpm @70 mph empty It is a must with my Challenger 32 TSP 5th wheel. It Fills the gap between stock 47E auto gears. Empty I have 8 gears towing 7gears

Didnt I see somewhere that GV does not recommend using an exhaust brake with their trans??? Something about it was not designed to be used in conjuction with the exhaust brake. On the other hand the US Gear has no problems with that setup.
I had found a GV at a good price but once I did some research I changed my mind...

You have to have the Banks Exh. Brake Harness modified to work with the GV It took one extra trip back to Banks and they resolved the problem with GV. It works correct now. However you can not engage the Banks Smart Brake (it is separate) with the GV engaged. This is not a problem because the GV must be off when going down hill grades . I have a dodge friend with another MFG Ehaust brake that had to have his exh. brake harness modified before his would work. The GV is not a simple conversion because the drive line has to be shortenrd during installation I had the GV package installed at a trans shop for $3000 I would still do it again, but not to increase my milage.

It wasnt the problem with the exhaust brake...it was because the GV could not handle hold back pressure. There was a big discussion on the TDR about these transmissions..

Also on TDR the mpg reduction question was asked. The consensus from owners was that if there was any reduction it was very little and buying one just for mpg reduction wasn't worth it. Once you get up to a higher speeds air drag starts pulling down mpgs and lower rpms don't seem to make much difference.

If I'm not mistaken an exhaust brake can only be used when the GV is in direct drive, not the low range.

Why would you want to use engine braking in Overdrive anyway??

Has the GV improve my milage....Yes Did I buy it for increased mileage....No Did I buiy it for towing...Yes Does it take the load off my 47E auto trans towing grades....Yes Can it be used with my Banks Exh Brake (Smart Brake) engaged....No Can I use GV going down steep grades....No it does not hold back pressure Would I buy it again... Yes, for towing only, the increased milage is extra. I pull about 12-13K 5th wheel and it works for me.
