Fueling Boxes and HO Engines

I always research the heck out of things before buying.I
really want to try a fueling box to stack with my Van aaken
and Rv275 injectors.I was set on the Blue Chip APB box , but
now I have seen the TST Powermax3 with remote. I like the fact
that I can turn it off when not needed. Now after researching again
I see some people say these boxes don't give much more power on
the HO engines. For $500 -$600 dollars will I get an additional 90-100 HP
in my application ?

I have read the TST PM3 will result in near 100 hp in an HO engine.....but I have no personal expirience. I love my PM3.... HP & torque come in early and the HP curve stays like a table top (on a dynojet) right up to 3100 rpm!

most of the info I've read about the PM3 says you'll get around 90-100 hp in a H.O....

i get ~95 hp gain with the Drag comp on 5x5 over the Comp off. 340hp versus 434hp. everything else the same, dyno runs within 5 minutes. comp-on was run after comp-off so it would have been a little warmer on the second run...

Mark Chapple told me he's getting 90-100hp on the HOs with a standard PM3. It's pretty consistently in this range.

He also told me that a PM3 competition box and a hot rod VP make 180hp over no box and stock Vp!

The new Smarty may compliment the TST boxes in way that stretches the difference between box on and box off HP. The smarty may get us closer to the full 120hp the TST gives to the SOs for our HOs. Of course, that means that the SOs will be a little more.

That darn weenie little pump

The HOs are less capable of getting more power verses the SOs....because of the VP44 in the HOs are slightly different. They put out a higher fuel pressure than the SOs VP....but dont have the ability to pump the same volume of fuel. Given that...I would take an HO over the SO hands down any day...it is not the same motor as the SOs. It has a Higher compression ratio, better turbo, bullet proof tranny and a 13" clutch with a 1-3/8" input shaft. In my option the only down side of the HO is the VP and slightly smaller injectors....but $1600 for a HRVP is a small price to pay to get the HO capable of anything that the SO can do...without having to worry about getting an aftermarket auto....or your 5-speed falling apart. Just get a good clutch....and a good turbo...and then the sky is the limit!

There ain't nothing like driving a 6-speed with lots-o-power!

I ran a blue chip FMS w/a van aaken on my 01' HO & it was a really nice stack, good power from idle to the top side, I really liked it, alot of $ but lots of nice features as well, Dusty

I gained exactely 100 RWHP on my 01 HO with the TST box. If you want more you can always go with a bigger set of injectors. I think the injectors made the biggest differance.

Maybe all just stay with the Blue Chip APB. If you can only get
an additional 90 hp thats what the APB gives. I don't want to
go to bigger injectors because I tow. I want be able to turn down
or off the fueling box when towing. I'll just turn up the box when
I want to have a little fun

I really wouldn't be afraid to go bigger on the injectors. My truck is used for towing constantly and I run Mach 1.75's (110-115 hp on a HO) with a stock turbo. I have no EGT issues at all. I just turn the comp off when towing. Of course the 275's are great for towing too, just dont be afraid to go a little bigger in the future if you ever want to.

I didn't ask. I'm guessing an SO. HO should see similar numbers, maybe even better because the HO has the small plungers.--jh

I know I made the $300.00 mistake with RV275 injectors. I
wish I would have gone with Mach 1.6 injectors in the
first place, live and learn I guess
