Question fuel plate?

I was wanting some info on fuel plates, everyone on hear seems to know alot about them.....I don't.
I you slide the stock plate foward how much power can you get? does this hurt the engine?
Is it better just to buy a different fuel plate? what fuel plate would give me about 30H.P. more?

gauges first, then start playing with sliding fuel plates. and there is a whole lot more than 30 hp if you are willling to do so grinding. or just get a #10 and slide it 30k forward. for a good all around deal.

If you are getting it for your 95 you will want a #5 or 6, maybe an 8 if you have a stick. The lower the number the more power they make. The 5's require a clutch or auto upgrades. This will put you between 230 and 270 hp and 605-675 tq to the ground.

If you really want to waste the clutch, take the plate out. It will run without it but just be real touchy. A #10 plate is what I run and I dyno'ed at 305.

Install the gauges first or at least when doing the plate and or adjusting the factory installed one. Give Piers a call on what is best for you, as far as the #10 is concerned you are being given some great advice from gunracer1 with the addition of the 3000 governor spring kit and bump the timing, then go easy on your auto or clutch till upgraded. The TST #8 plate will give you the 30 horse you're looking for and let you auto live. A 6 plate will also run great with a bit more power. A 5 plate will give you real good power but will eat an auto tranny up and definitely throw high heat if you tow.
My suggestion would be guages first then either the 8 or 6.

Enjoy, Bill

Get a #10 plate with 3K's, that's all you need! They are much better than the #5's and 6's, a #4 is too hard on the bottom and will toast a tranny or clutch. People always look at he chart and that is fine but you need to look at the fuel curve of the #10.

I hate this #'s game.

I have a #10 tst and on their site it says that a #4 will do better in a 180HP pump what should I do.

And what is a #10 related to for the 180 or 160 Pump. I mean is it close to a #5 ?
Not saying I don't like the #10 it works great but should I sell it for the #4 like TST says? I'm not worried about the clutch I just want some HP.
Thanks
DM01

I am VERY happy with the #10 in my 98 12v auto truck - truly amazing what it did to wake my 275k mile stock Dodge up. I put it in the stock location, will be moving it a little as soon as I find time to tear into it.

DRM that #10 will trash your stock tranny if you have it far forward.

Dodgeman, the reason I like the #10 has nothing to do with that dang chart as I ignor it, the 10 has a half moon fuel curve to it and that I like. Nice smooth transition from low RPM to max fuel then to a cow catcher on top that pulls the rack back a little on the topend to control EGT's, almost all trucks make there best power at around 2500 and that is were this plate shines. I have a #4 in my box and I don't like it, fuels real hard right off the bottom, I need to swap it for a #10 to mail around to folks.

On a #10 you can make the power band were you want it by raising or lowering the Governor arm, you decide were it comes in by that, now you want more info......lets just say the plate in my race pump is not much different!

Jeez give the guy a break he said he was only looking for 30hp at the moment and he can easily get that by just sliding his stock plate forward and getting a good breathing air filter then when he decides thats not enough he can decide on a new plate.

Jim is right, forget the chart. #10 is the one Piers recommends for your little pump. I've been running one for seven years, love it.
The #10 in a later model engine with the bigger pump is a whole different animal.

Jim is right on the 10......I've been runnin one for 2 years and that and the 3K governor springs I would have to say are the two most noticeable things I've added. The only thing I wish is that the fuel milage would get back to 20 mpg. I can't get over 17 now, and that's babying it.. Still the egt's will climb up there if you don't watch it. Add 370's to that and it's just about all the street power you can use.
