FASS is in but?
Well I picked up a FASS unit today (those boys at Piers just love to give good deals
) and my first thoughts were this is a very overbuilt product. First rate on every thing but there are two questions....
First in every step of the instructions it says to torque to proper specifications however nowhere in the manual does it say what the specs are, did any one else notice this?
So I just winged it on everything.
Second after I finished the install I bumped the key about 6 times and still never got any pressure, the pump never seemed to change in tone so it appears its not pulling fuel out of the tank. should I have prefilled the filter? Its to late to work on it any more tonight so I thought I would see if any of you had any ideas I can try tomorrow. Thanks

My problem was the quick connect allows air to get in the feed line from the tank to the FASS. I cut the quick connect off and used a 3/8" hose clamp. I had to use a 1/4" ratchet before the hose was tight enough to get the pump to start sucking fuel.
Are the filters full of fuel?

I read that a few people had this problem so thats how I hooked it up also. I too had to use a 1/4" ratchet to get it to were it seemed tight enough.
I will try dropping the filter in the morning and see if any fuel made it to it.

I think that's the recommended way to prime the system. I put a 5gal bucket under the forward filter and ran the pump until fuel started coming out... be careful though, it can pump the 5 gallons in about as fast as it takes to read this. Then open the line up by the VP and wait until you get a solid stream out. Then bleed each one of the injector lines. I found it normally starts when at least 4 lines are shooting fuel. Hopefully your truck is better.

I will have to drive it for a couple of days to see if theres any noticable differance other than its a lot quieter than the old Carter pusher I had mounted there. Man that thing made the rear view mirror fuzzy
Thanks again
Yes I think there is a port on the pump but I just made a manifold up about 6" back from the VP44 so I didnt have to change my gauge and needle valve set up. You would need a pretty long line from the gauge to the pump.

Thanks,
I think that is what I would do too....keep the needle valve and tee it in under the hood. I've been calling around looking for the best price. I can tell you this though...Rip @ SourceAuto is very willing to make and beat anyone else's legit offer. Nice guy too.
btw ratsun the color of your truck looks sweeeeeeet !

As far as prices go I didnt shop around as Piers is only about 5 miles from me and they have always stood behind all their deals with me so... I think you will be very happy with one of these systems whoever you go thru
Good luck
ratsun -- AWESOME!!! Mine hit 20psi tonight after three 1/4mi runs ... think the Mach6's are suckin' a lot of fuel. It's funny, I think my FASS wants to imitate a RASP unit since it increased the FP during hard runs.
My FASS's a smokindiesel.com kit that I bought thru Merrick. It comes with a 1/8" tee that goes in the line by the VP for a FP guage.

Has anybody done a comparison between the RASP & FASS? Just wondering what would be the best way to go. When you install the FASS, do you eliminate the original filter & lift pump? Thanks for your help

I looked into both systems
RASP @ DTT in Abbotsford
FASS @ Piers in Surrey
Both systems have their own +s
I went with the FASS because of their claims to remove entrained air, if it really does or not?
I ran a Carter pusher with the stock LP and filter with 18psi and still lost a VP44, so just having lots of fuel is not the only answer. To answer your question yes you bypass the factory LP and filter. The filters on the FASS are simple spin ons so there a snap to change
Hope this helps
I haven't seen anyone swap from FASS to RASP or the other way around. I think my FASS thinks it's a RASP. It increases fuel pressure after a hard run.
With a FASS, you eliminate the stock system from injection pump to fuel tank.

Does FASS come with fuel lines or uses stock fuel lines?
I put this together for my system... No idea what kind of pressure it'll give me or HP it'll support.
This is 12mm x 1.5mm weber carb (vp44) to -6an adapter, -6 an female 90 degree -6an female, -6an male to 3/8" npt male with 1/8" npt fuel pressure gauge port
I'll be running 3/8" SAE J03R9. Wonder if I should've gone with 1/2". It'd seem weird running 1/2" when the port on the vp44 is so small. But I guess if the bottleneck is RIGHT at the vp44 it doesn't matter much(?)
In terms of bleeding the system - I agree with running the pump all the way up to the vp44, then plug 'er in and see what happens. Bleed injectors as necessary.
