F.A.S.S. lift pump information!
A little friendly information for those in search of a new lift pump.
I recently sent an email to F.A.S.S. after seeing their advertisement for their new 2nd generation lift pump. This is not the full system, only the lift pump! This is what I asked:
I noticed you are offering a high performance lift pump for the 2nd generation Dodge Cummins, Part# HPFP-95-1002 (95GPH). You stated stock to moderate horsepower. What do you consider the horsepower range? What is the life expectancy of the pump? Is this the cure-all for the 2nd generation lift pump problem?
This was the reply I received:
"Thanks! Andrew, The FASS Pump you refered to should be good well into the 400hp range. They haven't been out long enough to tell how long they will or wont last, the other FASS products seem to last fine so we dont anticipate any change in quality. As far as we know they are the answer to lift pump issues. Thanks, Gary, J and H Performance. (530)245-0176. or www.jandhperformance.net"
I just thought I'd pass this information on to anyone who might be looking for a replacement pump.
Cheers,
Andrew

FYI...J&H is not the manufacturer...maybe a dealer? I would direct my questions to this site... http://www.dieselpp.com/ Talk to Brad. Think you will get different, better and more detailed info. For example, Based on my experience, I can't see any reason why either FASS (both the same pump) would not work up to 600+ HP; and I believe the MFG says up to 800,000 mile life, from experience on big rigs.

When I e-mailed the MFG they responded with the following info.
There are 2 pumps 95 GPH & 150 GPH. There is a 4 year warranty, and life expectancy is 600K to 800K miles. More than enough for our trucks. This may be the last LP you ever buy for around $375. Sounds like a deal to me.
Piperca, I agree with rjohnson, you were talking to a dealer not the manufacturer. Also, you seemed surprised by it not being a full FASS system. This is the SAME pump as the FASS full system without the filters. In fact the name of the product is FASS HPFP (high performace fuel pump) I think you can look at the pictures and see there are no filters. You can continue to use your stock fuel filter set up and just replace the weak LP. Sounds like a good thing to me. With the reputation and quality control FASS puts into their pumps I'm confident they will do what they say. Seems like a good thing to me.

I understand that this is a dealer, but when I emailed FASS they sent an email back stating they forwarded the information to a dealer in my area. In turn, the dealer is who emailed me back. I found that sort of odd!
Anyway, I just wanted to pass on the information, as I still read a lot of posts regarding bad LP's and since I needed to educate myself, I thought it might help others.
Not to get off the subject but I'm considering installing a Westach fuel pressure gauge (30psi) and a Westach combination EGT/boost gauge. Can anyone let me know if this is a good choice or not?
Cheers,
Andrew

I feel the original FASS unit is good but dont think Id run just the pump...
I'm not aware of anyone currently running the USCG pump. However, the handful of folks running other Aeromotive pumps have a ZERO failure rate (admittedly, it's too small a sample to be significant).
I'd run it mostly on the reputation that Aeromotive has established. Because this USCG pump is designed for Marine applications, it is designed for diesel fuel and will resist corrosion very well.
It's also capable of moving SICK amounts of fuel at up to 45psi (600lb/hr). Tested to survive over 2000 hrs continuous running.
It's $420 from Summit Racing.http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...+400300+307731

When I read your first thread...sounded like you thought they were the Mfg....Sorry!
Sounds like Brad is too busy to deal with end users....or making enough money he does not have to. In literature that comes with FASS, He STRONGLY requests that any questions be directed to dealers. Guess he is now doing that with Prospects also. This is a mistake, IMO, and one I see many new vendors make. They start selling well (in large part because of their personalized customer service) and than try to delegate that which contributed greatly to their sales.
In Brads case, his dealers are too new to know many of the answers...and the honest ones, like you talked to, give general comments so as not to over sell.
As time consuming as it is to pick through all the info on this Forum...the data IS there....if you do a search.
I could easily be still looking around for a solution to my low FP at WOT if it were not for 10 mins on the phone with Brad. He made me comfortable with spending the money for his product because he is a classy gentleman...WITH all the answers!

Westach electric fp gauges have a reputation for senders failing often. I run Stewart Warner electric gauges and I love them. You can get them from XK unlimited for a good price. I have a pre and post filter sender conected to the filter housing via rubber hose and tapped banjo bolts from Geno's Garage. I use a double pole switch to select which reading I want.
piperca, everything said above is accurate...4yr warranty (what does the USCG pump have?)....600k-800k mile life expectancy, and it is a full kit. Tank to filter housing. All you need to do is finish the filter housing to VP section.
Talk to Rip here for a price less $$$ than what was stated above: http://www.protintnw.com/sa_dodgemenu.htm
And check out this thread: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=56844
Also when I get to it, I'll pull the pics from my install off the camera and post them....easy install too btw.
Hey what does your member name signify ?...piperca

Thanks for the info, Moose10.
The username is not diesel related. I am originally from Scotland, play the bagpipes and live in Southern California ... Piper-CA
Know anything about gauges? Like I said before, I'm considering installing Westach gauges. Are they OK? A fuel pressure and a combo EGT/boost.
Cheers,
Andrew

Well, well a fellow bagpiper...I knew it !
I've been playing for almost 20 years. My uncle taught me in 1986. I'm not from Scotland...born/raised in Buffalo, NY, but I have a rich Scottish heritage. Clan Henderson to be exact. Many of my family members have visited Scotland on numerous occasions, and hopefully I will too someday. Anyway, check out this website. It's the band I played in for 11 years and much of my family has been involved with the Gordon's much longer.

I can't really comment on the Westach gauges, but I have seen them in other member photos, so I'm sure someone will respond to that.
Do you have something against Isspro's ?....just kidding...you can check mine out in the gallery.
Time to go home for dinner.....we're having haggis !

It is a small world!
I've been playing for about 32 years. Played for a grade 3 band back in Scotland. Moved to the States and played for the New Orleans Pipes and Drums. Moved to Southern California and played with the Los Angeles Scots. We competed annually at the Worlds in Glasgow. Won grade 2 in 1997 with our MSR. Graduated on to grade 1 and left the band. Now I give lessons to keep in touch with it all. By the way, what reeds are you playing? My old man is Andy Ross, Ross Reedmakers (formerly, Megarity Ross).
Sorry, got a little off track there
I have nothing against Isspro. I was just turned on to the Westach by a friend when trying to figure out how to hook up an Isspro mechanical fuel pressure gauge inside my cab. I believe there is an isolator? I couldn't find anyone who knew what I was talking about. He turned me on to the Westach mainly due to the combo designs (less clutter on the A pillar). Anyway, I am quite open to suggestions. I just purchased the truck and it's my first diesel. I really want to make sure the fuel delivery stays healthy!
Enjoy your Haggis, I just had a black pudding and chips for dinner
Cheers,
Andrew

Definitly a small world.....I met a British Army troop playing his bagpipes one night when I was stationed in Saudi Arabia back in 2000
I use Harris Reedz in my chanter, and Synthedrone synthetics for the drones. Main reasoning for both is because the band bought them in some supply so they were a bit cheaper.
The way I see it for the gauges, if you're going to put two on the a-pillar, you might as well put three. imo it looks better and then each one is dedicated, and they really don't cut down on visibility. My Isspro FP came with an isolator, but I sold it and ran fuel straight to the gauge....with a needle valve (see gallery). I was suprised how low I could pull my FP down after I hooked up the gauges...even at stock settings. That was why I went with the FASS II.
