external wastegate???

i am thinking about puttine a w/g on my truck but dont want to end up with a huge project. does anyone know were to get a good one, what it costs, what size i would need and how do i fab it up. and would it be worth doing? i think im getting to the point were i need to protect my turbo?

i have a tial 38mm gate on mine i think there a little over 200 bucks. to adjust it im using a cheap air compressor regulator from home depot. works good keeping my little hx35 alive

powermad 12-06-2008 06:12 PM

so would i benefit from putting one on my truck and how would i mount it?

powermad 12-06-2008 06:52 PM

does anyone have pictures of one installed

I'd like to see how its mounted too. Are you guys putting the external gate on the manifold or on the exhaust housing?

That plate is a great idea. That set up can't be cheap.

whats your drive pressure now ? how much hp do you wont to make . does you turbo have a wastgate now ? I have made 650 hp with no ex wastgate & outhers have made more than that . need more info

Can someone explain to me what the point of that is if you already have a wastegate cause i know hx 35s have wastgates already on them.

i have a aftermarket 60mm non wastegated ceramic ball bearing turbo i see 40 psi of boost and am around 460hp. do i have to weld all that together and then bolt it to the exhaust and turbo?

powermad 12-07-2008 10:21 PM

does anyone have pictures of a wastegate installed and what kind of price for everything i need?

Ph4tty 12-09-2008 03:33 PM

There's more pics and contact info on the link I posted under the last pic. Here's another from that page:

oh ok thats alot more simple then i thought! how much does this setup cost and what all do i need that doesnt come with it

97 D-Tec 12-10-2008 08:29 AM

i was told that basically you dont need it unless your runining like ridiculous amounts of boost like with twins

Here is my Tial 38mm Ext. Wastegate. It's welded onto the manifold and is controlled by a regulator giving from 20 psi to 'fully closed off' boost (62 psi).
Total cost in Dec, 2004 was $388.00 for fittings, regulator, hoses and W.G.
'Wasted' exhaust was ducted into down pipe... keeping excessive heat away from turbo.
Bottom pic is Wilkerson R08-02-F000 regulator setup.

Worked great...allowing me to take a non wastegated 425hp turbo up to 500 hp. without over spooling.
