Exaust Problems....need help

I just had installed a 4" turbo back exaust with a Magnaflow muffler and 5" tip. My problem is the drone and vibration at my steering wheel, its driving me crazy.

These are my ideas for the annoying drone:

1. Put a second magnaflow muffler on....i figure 2 of them might kill the noise.

2. Put a resonator before the muffler.

3. Get the 51" Nelson and punch out the baffle. Or mabey even leave it in.

4. Get the Hush muffler from Flowmaster....mabey 2

5. Rokk Technologies.....if they ever respond

What should i do??
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated....Thanks

I've heard guys say Donaldson mufflers help, but I have no experience with them. Out here in the sticks we cut them off or punch them out if the neighbors aren't getting mad enough.

You may have a little no matter what you do its just the nature of the beast some times. The vibration is a new one to me.

I got the vibration figured out. The shop that installed my exaust only put two of the hangers back on the system, the ones in the very rear, so the exaust is unsupported all the way to the turbo, its acting like a tuning fork. Iam a bit upset that I have to go back to the muffler shop and explain to the professionals one of the reasons why rubber mounted hangers are important.

Iam surprised there isnt a proven 4" and 5" thru exaust sytem thats made to eliminate drone, seems like everyone has to get creative and piece stuff together to try and solve the issue. Banks,Magnaflow,Mbpr, ect need a system that addresses this.

Johnh...what mufflers did you use and how far apart where they?

I might try muffler-resonator-muffler combo...

Dont know about the vibration? I didnt think exhaust would affect that?

I have a 95' with a 4" turbo back exhaust and a muffler, dont know what kind, it was on the truck when I bought it, but it doesnt really have vibration or a drone to it, just a smooth deep sound.
I do have a solution for the drone though, theres a **** that says volume over by the radio, just turn it counter clockwise until the drone goes away

Exhaust drone can be made from several different things. Where does it exit and how far does the exhaust stick out passed the body? If the tip is flush or inside the body that can cause alot of drone since the noise is hitting the body and echoing thought it. I fixed my drone issue by installing a turndown tip, plus it keeps the smoke off the body and whatever I tow. Simple fix plus it cheaper than buying a second or third muffler.

Yeh I was looking at my tip and wondering if it had something to do with the drone. It hangs about 5" below the dually fender and faces down and rear ant a 45 degree, the tip is also sliced at a 45 degree. Doesnt look like its reflecting sound under there, but mabey. The muffler shop welded it on so its no an easy swap.

Please keep the ideas comming!! thanks

I have an MBRP exhaust on my truck, and have no drone, no vibration, and no perceptible rise in noise level in the cab. It took all of 15 minutes to install. No, I'm not joking. It took twice as long to take out the old exhast, even though some of it had fallen out. It mounted in the factory hangers, and fit into the truck with no problems.

I expected a big hassle, but was pleasantly surprised. I am in no way affiliated with MBRP. I will definitely buy another exhaust system from them, should I get another truck, or have this system require replacement.

I have the MBRP 5" ( will soon get rid of the 4" DP ) and it is a little louder than stock in cab but not bad . I took the muffler off and it was a little better. The full 4" is very quiet in the cab. I have installed many many MBRP and thats all I use and they are great and never had a prob with mounting or bad noise.
