Engine Build Simulation
Engine Build Simulation
I am an engineer by trade and am planning on building the snot out of my engine. I would like to design the specifications from the ground up using simulation software. There are several sources of commercially available "virtual engine" software, and simulated dyno performance models hat use the various engine specification (i.e., Bore, Stroke, Cam duration/Lift, injectors, compression ratio, displacement, etc.) and tell you what to expect and if you have tolerance issues (munch a valve).
Anyone have any experience.

I have seen them but do not have any experience with them. The cummins engine is pretty stout all around. I am not sure how much is going to need to be done if it is going to be a really hot daily driver. Once you get that I in hp and tq it gets dangerous to drive around on the street, but all of this depends on what you are wanting to use the truck for.
Hope this helps some

We played around with one at the shop a few years ago to see if it was worthwhile. I can't remember what it was called, though. We haven't used it since. Actually, when my brother-in-law got new computers there, we didn't even load it back up into the new computers. We thought it was nice and kind of interesting to play with, but, it wasn't worth it. We realized there was nothing the program predicted that we already didn't know or could predict the outcome for ourselves...there's a couple guys there that their experience outperformed the software everytime. I'd say just ask around here in the forums and you'll surely tap that same type of real-world experience that no software stands a chance of competing against.
