Edge Comp EGTs, Power and such

After a more time browsing and learning on this site i have some more questions about my edge comp. I was initially having a lot of problems with the truck, mostly electrical. After putting new connectors on all of the old corroded battery connections i have noticed a big difference in how well the truck runs. I'm still not sure if the comp is runing correctly so here are a few questions:

1. I hear that the comp on 5X5 will get your egts up high real quick. My EGTs never get above about 900-1000 pinned going up a hill. My EGT probe is AFTER the turbo so have i almost burned up my engine and do i need to relocate the probe to before the turbo ASAP to see what my EGTs really are?

2. How fast should the truck be with stock injectors on 5X5 ? should it be as fast as a stock duramax or a stock HO 3rd gen? I don't notice a whole lot of power difference from levels 1-5.

To add a little bit of info, my max boost is around 18psi with the wastgate NOT turnbuckled (which i will probably turnbuckle shut tonight) Also, the comp is without a doubt wired correctly and i have a stealth cover on the pump to tap it. I appreciate the help!

wow you have some problems. well your egt's are high probably becaus eyou have a leak in your intercool system(like boots, intercooler). i would check all of your boots first and see if that does anything to your boost and egts.

ditto, with 30psi on the stocker I only got max about 1200 once really lugging it locked up, going down the highway maybe 1000, pre turbo, you should make 20 psi stock and maybe a couple more with the comp

I should clairify a bit, i get a 1000deg egt after having thre throttle pinned, going up a LONG hill, normally it doesn't go above 800 driving around no matter how hard i floor it on 5x5

Moving it pre turbo would probably be a good idea. When the engine isn't working, pre and post readings are similar, but when it is working hard, it can be 500+ difference. So if you've hit 1000 degress post, could be 1500-1600+ degrees pre turbo. Move it, and you'll never have to guess again.

Are you sure the stealth cover is installed properly? There should be a significant difference between 1 and 5. If the cover didn't make contact with the circuit board, then its just in EZ mode.

BTW, take a look at the local chapters board at the bottom of the main page.

If your EGT's post turbo are reaching 1000+ on a hard run you are definitely over 1500 degree pre turbo.

Move the probe pre turbo or do not let it get above 800 degrees on a hard run.

Start with the turnbuckle- some more boost will help bring temps down as long as you keep it under 30 lbs.

I agree with the comp not being tapped correctly. I know you said that it is, but check again and you'll be happy you did. The comp should definetly be different from levels 1 to 5. Check the second setting to make sure when you do it it is on 5x5 and not 5x1 or something like that.

I also second (or third or fourth...I lost count) that the pyro should be PRE-turbo. THis takes the guessing game out of it and makes it easier to monitor the truck, which is the reason for the gauges!!!

Good luck

I check the probe on the stealth plate and it has 12V on it when the ignition is turned to on. Just how fast should the truck be? I though there was a chance that the it was an electrical problem with the truck, looks liek its time to send the comp back to edge... I think i'm goona order some 275RVs in the mean time!

I think that might be the right thing to do. Sounds like you've checked everything else you think it could be. Maybe it's the box itself
I've been thinkin about 275s too. THe comp will really wake up when you get it back from edge.

I can hit 1500-1600(pre turbo) very quickly on 5x5 but I also have the boost elbow installed. Your Comp won't fuel properly till you installed the boost elbow. It's only fueling for 18 psi boost, you should see the low 30's boost with the elbow installed. Remember it's computer controlled.
You should feel a good increase each power level after the boost elbow and even runs better turned off with the elbow.
Yes 5x5 will outrun any new stock truck!

ya i agree on the boost elbow, i totally forgot about that, thats super important, you should have got one with you comp. thats just a 90 deg. elbow, or you could get one like i did thats asjustable, i would suggest that over just blocking off your waste gate. but get an elbow and if that dont work...send it back
but how fast should your truck be....pretty fast but i cant out run my moms dmax but she has a van aaken chip on it to...

Well since i have an auto with the HY35 turbo a boost elbow won't do me any good. I'm goona use a turnbuckle and lock it shut tomorrow, see what happens then i guess!
