I was just meddling around with my friends DV's earlier and noticed the really really small hole all of the fuel has to go through to get into the lines. My question is, is there a reason there is such a small orifice?? Seems as if the hole was made as big as the ID of the injection line it would flow so much more.

To maintain a given amount of pressure. A bigger hole will flow more fuel, however with all things being the same....it will also lower the pressure.

 

True, but once the lines are filled they will hold the pressure I would think. Only thing I would see if it is to build the pressure so the injector doesn't pop off too soon.

 

well, they make bigger injector lines and delivery valves, right?

All things being the same.....as flow increases, pressure decreases and you can't change that.

 

While that's true there is something to consider- the impediment to flow should be the injector, anything between injector and pump should flow "enough" - the pressure you talk about is only before the injector line and I don't see that a pressure drop between the IP and the injector is beneficial- but on the other hand it could either be necessary to restrict the flow there as not to burst injector lines or have some other reason I don't know.
Asking Piers or any one of the other fine P-Pump savvy folks is a good idea.

They are just one more device to meter and control fuel volume and pressure. Due to laws of physics if you double the diameter you will increase flow 16 times (some law of physics I long ago forgot the name of).

They do make larger DV valves 131, 181, 191 and laser cut. Each has it's advantages depending on the pump and desired fuel volume.

You would be amazed at how much fuel a tuned P7100 pump can move. 800 - 900+ ml's of fuel at 3000 rpm in a race pump is not unheard of or higher. That's nearly a quart a minute.

The 160 pumps had a smaller DV. That is why many update to a larger DV when going with larger injectors to keep up the flow and reduce engine stumble.

 

Yes you can get different DV's....but is the hole in the holder bigger,smaller or the same ????

 

Yeah, the hole which I refer to is in the holder.....well I guess the holder holder. The part the injection line screws onto. It is like a pinhole in there!

Run a 1/4" drill through it........then you'll get her to flow

 

Yeah, but is it a pinhole for a reason? Cause if not that is kinda my idea. Shoot I guess I just need an extra set so I can drill it and try it.
