You could try your luck on the stock head bolts I ran on mine for a while with the Mach 7s but i was only running 45lbs of boost and it finally went after like 5 months but eventually you'll need some studs

to properly get the horse power from the larger turbo, box, and sticks you will NEED studs. With out them, you will only be able to safely boost ~43 psi. With them, you will be able to boost ~50 psi safely. and it will be alot more reliable

It depends. I have seen an O-Ring'd head with stock studs make 630hp on a 12 valve with no problems. Not sure on the boost #'s, but he was running a pro street 66 i believe.

I've run 40+psi for well over a year now on the stock headgasket and head bolts with no issues but it varies from truck to truck. You might not need them now but I recommend you install them as soon as you can just for the piece of mind.

My boost is down enough now where I'm wondering if I really do need studs Always less than 40 lbs of boost in my now underfueled rig.

No you dont need studs. They are a good insurance policy though if properly installed.

I you want to not worry about loosing a headgasket then installing studs is good insurance. A good rule of thumb, below 40# good ont OEM stuff, 40# but below 50# install studs, above 50# you should consider o-rings or fire rings.

I have seen stock trucks blow HG's and also seen trucks push well beyond 500 RWHP on the OEM setup. Each truck is different. I can say that it is much easier and cheaper to install the studs than to replace the HG and flush the coolant and oil systems.

Not to change the subject BUT ,, I am going through a headgasket leaking problem Now,, I hear all this talk about head bolt retorque Can you retorque a stock headgasket and bolts? with 30000 miles, If I understand correctly,,, You can remove the head bolts,Clean,Lube and reinstall, without changing the gasket? Torque To Factory specs? 2001 CTD
I have never heard of this,,, I HOPE its True,,
Can You post steps?,, Do you do one bolt at a time? or remove all and reinstall ?

I should have never put that Edge Comp on,,

Thanks

I am going to stop playing with the forrest fire really soon, but i'm still running the stock head bolts in my 03. Dyno'd 525/996 at 55 psi on them. I'll definitely be getting the studs asap.

Just my luck to get a NEW CTD that cant handle all stock except a Edge Comp With the boost elbow in and the head gasket starts leaking 200 miles after install.....
After I get that done ,,it should be time to start allover again with Ball joints, track bar,5th gear,etc.......... It's a Vicious circle...

I think it's time to SELL,,,,,

Thanks for everybody's help.
