I need brakes and want the best long lasting brakes out there. Do I go to my Dodge dealer and spend big bucks to buy just the brakes and install them by my professional installers down the street or is there something as good or better in the after markets e.g. Auto Zone, NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.<br><br>Do I have disk brakes or drum brakes on the rear.

 

Well, I steped out and am going to install ceramic brakes from NAPA called &quot;United&quot; $72. Will have them installed, rotors ground down and berrings repacked for $60. This is for the front discs all for $132. plus tax.<br><br>I think I did good. That's of course with &quot;no surprises&quot;<br><br>They are going to do the work now. Should I let them or is there anybody out there that recommends I change something...Thanks...Jim

 

P.S. Dodge wanted $120. for semi metallic brakes..$400. to do the total job, brakes included

 

I called a local auto parts warehouse (the kine that only sells to shops) and they didn't have ceramics for my truck, so I went with the low end dealer pads (the dealer had a cheap pad and an expensive pad)<br><br>I'd like to hear how the ceramics work out for you--I might try and find some again next time it's time to change the pads.<br><br>No Worries

 

Dunno never had luck with aftermarket brakes. I figure if I get 80 or 100k outa a set that are factory, I will get the same again with factory parts. (and I do)Same as tires, pay me now or pay me later IMO. I replace the rotors when I do the brakes, as I have had problems with shudder afterwards. My truck is used for constructon work, is usually carrying weight. Also factor in stopping distances. Are the cheapo pads working the same?? 2 feet faster stopping can save your grille and condenser. FWIW<br>

 

Spots, That was the thing that almost stoped me from the ceramics, but the word is &quot;supposedly&quot; that you get better millage out of the ceramics. <br><br>Well, I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

 

I just put a set of semi-metalic pads on my truck. I got them from autozone and I got the the more expensive of the two that they offer. I think they were about 45 bucks or so. I don't think that they stop nearly as well as the stock brakes did. Next time I am going back to dodge to get my pads.

 

I havent been able to find any ceramic pads for my truck, it seems to me everywhere I went they stopped making them for anything after the 00 model year, I thought maybe the Part #s would be the same but I checked part#s of regular pads for earlier years against mine and they dont match up. Anyone know where I can get Ceramics? Or at least dust covers for my 18&quot; wheels?<br>

 

I'm running ceramics on mine and on my wife's suburban. Good stopping power. Have been told that they should have be a high milage pad by both the Dodge parts dept. and parts house dealer.

i just bought front pads and rears for my 99 from the dealer paid 45 for right and left front and 45 right and left rear! it was a total of 101 with tax!<br>

there the same brakes that came on the truck from the factory i am assuming! i thought he was telling me 46 a side not for both when he said both i was like ok ill take rears to! thanks and got the heck out of there! hopefully get a chance to put them on tommorow! work stinks!
