Cummins ebrake question

Hi,
just purchased a cummins engine...a 1995.
it came with a cummins ebrake (by Jacobs)
the actuator is on the exhaust elbow, and the microswitch is on the throttle
plate.... what else am I missing? there is a nipple on the vacuum canister on the ebrake...where does this go?
Thanks!

Your exhaust brake should be vacuum activated ON and spring pressure OFF. You may have to call Jacobs to see what parts you dont have but I think you're supposed to have a vacuum solenoid which ties into the main vacuum line and goes to the exhaust brake vacuum pod. The micro-switch tells the solenoid to close (shutting the exhaust brake OFF) when throttle is applied, and open (turning the exhaust brake ON) when there is no throttle. Making sure that setting is right is important since you DO NOT want the exhaust brake to come on while you're on the throttle otherwise EGT's will quickly climb to dangerous levels.

I had one on one of my previous trucks, but forgot what it all entails...
I'm thinking I should be operational for not too much more money.
Thanks!
I'll call Jacobs Monday.....

It looks right but I couldn't say for sure. Why dont you call Jacobs and get the part? Then you're not guessing.

I would get a solenoid for the vacuum, and control it with a push pull switch on the shifter.

These instructions are for a PacBrake but it's about the same as Jacobs. Should give you a good idea about missing parts and where they go.

OK...from your diagram, it looks as if the solenoid I found on ebay will work.
it's basically nothing more than a switched vacum attatchment.
Thanks!
