As anyone replaced their stock fan with the electric type such as flex a lite? Any pro's and con's ? I am planning a month up in the rocky mountain area and will be towing a 6500 pound trailer. I want to keep big bertha as cool as possible. right now were are basically stock.

Last time I heard, as long as you don't tow, the electric fans are good. But if you tow, they don't work that well. Horton makes an electric fan clutch for our trucks. It's like $600 though. I'm sure there are others but that's the only one that comes to mind right now.

Re:Cooling Fans
I converted a GMC 3/4 ton over to electrics several years ago and I loved the performance gain!!! It was a gasser but it responded real well to it.
Would I do it again? NO It was problemmatic and the thermostats were the biggest problem.
I also had several issues when the AC was on and the sensor didnt tell the fans to come on which resulted in tremendous pressure in the AC system and blowing a safety valve...FREON GONE!
Maybe I had a cheap setup but it gave me fits....

Matt,
If the fan you need is for the 2003 truck in your signature, I'm unaware of any aftermarket fans, nor do I think there is any in developement. You have a huge stock fan and it will partially engage, electronically, from a ECM signal. I like the Horton setup that I have but from what I've seen your 2003 is an even better setup. You won't lack for fan when towing!
A year or two ago I experimented with electric fans and the manufacturers did not have a model that would move a fraction of the air that our stock (2nd Gen.) would supply. HTH's, Larry

Re:Cooling Fans
I would stay with the clutch fan. These trucks are made for pulling heavy and they need lots of air moving through the radiator. The manufactures also want good MPG from their trucks but how many do you see with electric fans?
