Hey Wizard,
If you make the effort to drive 6 hours for a cool-down timer, I will install it for nothing, or you could buy lunch. ;D

I'd be willing to drive 45 minutes for a free install (maybe lunch).
Problem is, I can't get one yet. ($$)
Can't even afford a 10 dollar haircut (see the "men" thread)
I'll definatly keep you in mind when the time comes though. ;D

Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
And it does work with the keyless entry, right? Meaning that I can set the timer, shut the door, and be able to lock up with the keyfob?
Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Thanks for the info. I can see where the alarm might be a slightly different story than just the keyless entry, depending upon how it works. I don't have an alarm, though, so it looks like I'm clear to try to talk SWMBO into one for Christmas. 8)
Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Just in case anyone knows someone, that knows someone with a Duramax or a Powerstroke, tell them that the Turbo Cool-down Timer works on there trucks also. Not all Fords have been tested, but they should work just the same.
Thanks,
Howard

Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
My '04 3500 (SRW) arrives at the dealership day after tomorrow and I ~WILL~ have one of these timers for it. Knowing the importance of cool turbo oil, I had a EGT sensor/switch installed on my 6.9 Ford. The first owner had an aftermarket turbo installed after the warranty was up. The EGT unit was quite costly, but good insurance. I can't believe my good fortune in finding this site and especially Howard's affordable timer. I hope he makes a million bucks!........Dan.
Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Received my Cool Down Timer in the mail today. I installed it per instructions and it works great. The 2,4 and 6 minute settings are correct to within about 5 seconds. I located my timer to the left of the hood release. It looks clean and out of the way. The only bummer is; Howard forget to include the minute selector **** with my timer. ???
Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Just got one. I would like to install the box behind the dash and just the button and led on the dash. Is this going to be just a matter of lengthening some wires? Also, it is going in my truck with an alarm so i will be able to let everyone know my experience with this.
Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Buzz, sorry about the ****, I have two college students working for me, I need to watch them more closely. In fact they soldered the timer chip in backwards on 14 out of the last batch of 20 timer we did. :'(

I will send you a **** one first thing in the morning.
DynamicalyUnstable, yes all you will need to do is lengthen the wires. Make sure you get them all back on the same wires. You should have told me you were going to do this, in fact, if you want to send that one back (or sell it to a friend) I could make you a box with two holes and run longer wires out of the box for you. The LED and the red push button switch need to go through the dash from the front, the rotary switch needs to go through from the back.

That would be great. Actually, I just ordered it online last night so hopefully, it hasn't shipped. I paid through paypal and the shipping address is in Pleasant Hill CA.
Thanks a lot! ;D

Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Any word on compatibility with the factory alarm yet? If not, I have a 99 with the factory alarm and keyless entry. I'd be willing to use it as a test vehicle.

Switchboard,
I sent a timer to RATTLINRAM, he has a truck with a factory alarm. He did some testing and I think I will cut and past his results on here for everyone to see.
** From RATTLINRAM*****************************
" When I tested it, I found that the factory Vehicle Security System (VSS) cannot be enabled when using the timer. However, the good part is that the VSS does not keep the
timer from working."
** More from RATTLINRAM **
Evidently, as long as the VSS is getting a signal that the engine is running, it will not arm the system, which makes sense. If I don't use the timer, the VSS works as it always did. The Keyless entry works as usual with or without the timer. So, if I park in a place where I really want the VSS to be armed, then I will just have to wait until the temp has come down. NO BIG DEAL. I don't worry about the alarm when at work and I was mainly interested in the ability to remove the key, thus locking the doors, steering wheel and shifter while the truck can have a chance to cool without me being there.
** The end, from RATTLINRAM - Thanks RATTLINRAM ;D ********

Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
Howard,
I got my cool down timer, wired like you said (nicely done by the way) but the wires at the solder are very brittle and there was one wire on the start button that was broken in the package and the the other one broke of from gentle handling from myself. This is not a big problem for me as I wil just re-solder them myself but ther is also a small green wire that is not attatched to anything that is located near the button, light, and switch ****. I can't identify where it belongs so I just need to know that so i can reattatch it.
Thanks...

Re:Cool-Down Timer Article Available
It looked as though the green wire had been soldered to the same pole as the blue wire (ceter pole) on the timer switch but it seems as though it should go on the 3rd outside pole (which is either cut or broken off.)
