Comp, Smarty, or something else?

I've been running a V5 for a while, got some injectors and new tranny (see my sig) this weekend, and think I might switch to a different type of controller. I like the V5, but now when I'm towing at lower speeds, under 45mph, the truck just doesn't know what to do. It shifts and revs and gets kinda cranky. I finally had to put it in second gear today to get it to act right on a bumpy back road. If I want somewhat adjustable power for towing and then for playing, would I be better off with a comp or a smarty or some combination of the three? I've heard you get up to like 120 hp from the comp, and can adjust it from the cab. Of course there is the tremendous smarty following. Don't know the pros and cons of each, and what would be better for me. Keep in mind, I tow heavy and often, so I can't get it too hot, but I sure like to romp on it when she's empty. Thanks!

if you tow at lower speeds, i say get the smarty. the edge comp is mainly for up high on the rpm band.

i have a smarty, its not the best thing since sliced bread, but its close!

Can you stack the two, or run just the smarty and turn the comp off? Seems like that would let you tow and play too.

if you want to stack a box with the smarty, get the tst. It dosnt add timing. Use the timing off of the smarty and the fueling off of the smarty and the tst. Its much smoother than the smarty/edge comp stack

If I stacked the smarty and TST, would I have to do anything else to the truck or could it handle all that? Bigger turbo, head studs, etc?

with the injectors, if you turn everything up, it will get hot. a htb2 or phatshaft 62 or 64 would be perfect tho. you would have one hot little truck

One thing you have to take into account is that the Smarty is only adjustable with the truck shut off. Smarty and TST is generally considered the preferred stack and I hope to be trying that out later this year.

I did 390 with Mach 1.5's and an Edge Comp. If you have a larger turbo you'll do a little more on the dyno. The Smarty can actually hurt you on the dyno some when you get a little higher in hp but it is awesome on the track!

Question

Should a guy get rid of the comp box? How much will I gain by switching to the TST box? Does the TST box work well without timing and how much more responsive is it than the comp? I'm just wondering if I should spend the money on the TST or nitrous/water injection??

We're going to try some comparisons this weekend. I've got my numbers from my truck with just the Comp, now I'm running a Smarty/TST. We'll see how the numbers stack up between the combos.

Any chance you could upload the graphs?

There's a nwbombers with that combo also. He runs low 13's at the track and tows a 15K 5th wheel with it. Now that's versaltility at it's finest.
