Is this Common?

Is accesive smoking for a 2001 with a 6speed with a EZ a common thing?,I installed a EZ for him and I never expected it to smoke like this, it blows in every gear. My dad has a 2000 auto with an EZ and it smoke like a gas job compared to the 6 speed.

Listen to Timbeaux38...

You might have a boost leak or cut intercooler boot. Is there a boost guage on the truck?

This is what i was talking about:

Could be just a loose clamp. Anyway, thats a place to start. There should be no real smoke difference between and auto and a 6 speed.

Could have a lot to do with how you drive the truck... if you're letting the boost drop and then flogging the go fast pedal, the EZ will make some smoke. Also if you lug the engine, smoke is easy to produce.

Definitely look for that boost leak though... even at 40,000 miles.

I thought the same thing, if the guy is used to bigger diesels he may be lugging it somewhat, coupled with the boost dropping off when he shifts...

Not ruling out a boost leak at all though.

Did you install the boost elbow? I had an EZ on my truck years ago and it smoked heavy.

i had an ez on my 01 with an auto, and it would pretty much only smoke off the line. once i got my 02 manual and i put an ez on it for a while, it would puff a little smoke in each gear.....not super thick, but noticable..

My '01 has 277,000 miles, yikes !!!

Anyway I have same setup and will smoke if you lug motor. Try to keep gear shifts above 2000 rpms., otherwise step on pedal very, very lightly.
Also set the jumper to the lowest setting, it will help a lot and you loose only 5 hp.

Good luck trying to slip that clutch, mine does not even pulling a 15,000 gooseneck.

On an auto, you shouldn't be losing the boost between shifts like on the manual...

if this guy is a light-footer, is it possible he also doesn't really know what a smoke show looks like?? I thought my 02 with an EZ smoked... until I saw a truck with a Comp.
