Thumbs down The Cold Noisy Motor Blues???

Does anyone else's motor sound extremely loud at -30??? This is this motor's first winter and I don't remember my old motor being this loud on those very cold days!!!

I am no where near as cold as you and mine sounds louder on cold mornings. I am only talking 30*, not -30*.
I would assume a long warmup time would help.
I just drive at less than 1500rpm until the temp breaks the 140* on the gauge.

Even at full temperature, the motor is loud. It sounds like a fuel system loud, if that makes any sense.. I hope that's all it is..

My 06 is a mouse compared to my old 01, no comparison at all really.

You are plugging in, right?

Mine is also very loud in the cold weather, and when it ramps up to 1200 and turns off 3 of the cylinders for a quicker warm up it gets even louder. but as it warms up it quiet's up.

It is the same if the truck is totally warmed up or if it is cruising down the highway, it seems loud. Like a "fuel knock" loud. I noticed this noise began when I added some 2 cycle oil to "quiet thing up". I wonder if it is from the 2 cycle oil?? There was a post on how ashless 2 cycle oil quiets these motors. I hope this oil didn't damage something or if this is just a reaction to cold weather???

Your saying 2-cycle did not quiet it down?? How much did you add? Add it before topping off so it mixed well?

Could be the scientific fact that sound travels better the colder and less humid it is.

I know when I crank mine on a cold morning I swear it's going to rip itself in half. It just sounds ugly.

The powersteering pump makes a god awful sound when it gets as cold as it is now. It goes away eventually. I find RPM helps. Bring it up to 1000 to 1200 RPM, and it goes away for the most part.

This morning it was 5*F or -15C* but -4F* or -20 C* with wind chill factor
Took awhile even with block heater to warm the Ram up and my suspension was nice and frozen.

Is that what that sound/ feeling this morning was? it got worse when I stepped on the brake pedal you could feel the vibration right on the pedal

That would be my suspicion. Its a real whiney noise, and it does get worse when you turn the wheels or step on the brake. I'd go and record what it sounds like, but my truck won't start.

I added 20 oz. It didn't quiet things down at all. I added it at 1/2 tank and my FASS 150 circulates really good!!

Maybe try some bio. I ran 20% for a tank, made it a lot quieter.

Suck out a little PS fluid and add a bottle of Lube Gard Power Steering additive http://www.lubegard.com/automotive/p...rotectant.html availible at most any autoparts store and you'll never hear the cold weather whine again. I run it in every vehicle I own or maintain.
