Clutch is going...

My clutch is going out. What would yall recommend? I don't really want to spend the money for a southbend. Would the Luk Pro Gold be a decent option?

I've ran many type of clutches, In all honesty you would be better going southbend, but if you cant over come money issues stick one in and be easy on it till you get saved up!

haisly clutches are junk. The luk clutch would be a good clutch. I had one in my truck and it was holding my Smarty on 9 and TST 9 run ok till i did a couple of 3rd gear launchs and it went south from there. If you drive it right it will hold good pull. You don't always need a DD unless you want to sled pull with your truck then it helps.

I'm with Rick here get a ValAir, it is the best clutch for the money without a doubt! Mine holds 400-425HP everyday (when the truck isn't tore down ) and has great drivability. Dan is also awesome to talk to on the phone when ordering or to answer any questions, I will buy a clutch from ValAir only now...

the thing is, if i tear up a 375 dollar luk clutch, i wont feel half as bad as if i did that to a southbend. and i know for pulling you need a double disk, but if you are going to do it once or twice, the clutch should stand it

Are you intalling the clutch yourself? If not then I would buy a good one. Labor will run you almost 500 bucks per install. 500x2 = 1/2 of a double disk or two good Feramic Valair clutches.

If I were you, I would get a valair clutch, it will hold more than a luk gold. I burned up my luk gold with just my Juice. I then got the standard facing organic 13" upgrade rated at 300 HP and it did not slip till I added my RV 275's on top of my HOT Juice. Dan recommended just a standard 13" upgrade but then 3K miles later, felt bad that his clutch would not hold RV 275's + HOT Juice on 315 Buckshot mudders; so he sent me a full feramic clutch free of charge. This FE clutch will not slip period. Since then I have added my Jammer 5's and still, even with boosted 2nd gear starts on the pavement, this clutch will not slip. Now I do not slip the clutch for 100 feet when I take off with boost, I just dump it and let the tires take a beating, so no, it is not like a double disk, but for 600 bucks, how can you go wrong.

All that said, if you are doing the labor and you are strapped for cash, sure get a Luk clutch and then in a year, when you have 600 saved up, buy a Valair FE 13" upgrade. 13" flywheel from an HO machined to accept 1.25" input of a 5 spd.
