Chrome 3rd gen wheels on a 96

I did a search, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I know they will bolt up, because the one's I bought did. My problem is that the rear axle hub sticks out too far and won't let the center cap seat. If you have done the swap, what did you do to modify the center caps to work?

A guy I know just ground some of the head off the bolts on the axle. He said it doesn't take much

Man, the 3rd gen wheels look like crap...I wouldn't recommend the swap in the first place. Just my $0.02.

To me they don't look any worse than the pos stock chrome one's that are already on the truck.

Hey, I just did the same swap, and had the same problem!

When did they start using these wheels? I heard they started using the AAM axles in 04, so if they used the new wheels in 03 (when Dana axles were still used) maybe the 03 centercaps would fit?

I just used the 96 centercaps for now.

I saw your post yesterday morning on the NWbomber board. After reading that I only tried putting on one wheel on the rear. I would have used the 96 centercaps, but they fit too loose. I could pull them off by hand. I cannot say for sure, but I thought 02 was the last year with the Dana's and with the new body style in 03 came the differend rear end.
