Cheeper?
Cheeper?
aight topic is Trannys. Lookin at a few new trucks. I enjoy my autos. I just... dont find truck shifting to be the most fun. Ya cant fly through the gears like in a lil car... the stick takes up a valuable seat ( college years are great) But. Im also going to be shooting for the 450-500 hp ranges eventually. ANd the trucks only going to be aroun for a few years tops. hopefully by 05 it will be gone! Makes ya wonder why im buying one eh? haha. But Anyway. What all needs to be done to the Standards to put up with that kind of power? I have a general idea with the autos, and know that its gonna cost aroudn 3300 to get those to stand it. What all needs done and how much will it cost to upgrade a standard?
Re:Cheeper?
Anyone know what has to be done to a standard? Like, they say with a auto its valve body, but then torque converters are a plus and better innerds......does the same stand for Manuals?
Re:Cheeper?
From what I gather there's a few different steps:
Clutch (+400HP = Nww Flywheel) $800-1850
Hardened Input shaft $650-800
(optional) fully splined 5th gear shaft $?
The best thing that I've done so far for research is to read back thru the threads here on DTR. You get a bunch of opinion, but there's a general concensus after reading a bunch of posts. The other thing that I'd recommend is calling Rod @ Wildcat or Peter at South Bend. They know their stuff.
