checking timing for slippage

Hey guys- looking to check my timing I set back in August. Supposed to be at 17.5*. I've got a wire indicator fastened to the underside of the engine, pointing to the harmonic balancer. On the balancer, I have a strip of white tape w/ a mark for TDC, and one for 17.5*. My question is, the advanced mark should be CLOCKWISE AHEAD of the TDC mark, correct?

Looking at the balancer from the front of the truck and turning the crank clockwise, yes your TDC marks will follow your advance marks. It might be just me but anytime I have had the timing slip the engine would not run at all.
